I love Bill Maher. From the latest episode of Real Time (which you can download in audio form for free as a podcast) he has the following riff on popular culture and new technology:

“Now, in his speech before Congress on Tuesday, the president pointed out that we’re addicted to oil, can’t afford health care, our education system is broken, our economy is near collapse, and the day of reckoning has arrived. But, many members of Congress didn’t hear all that, because during the speech, they were “Twittering.” Which is when you type out little messages on your hand-held device to tell everyone what you’re doing right now! Like, “I’m displaying the very self-absorption that will destroy us all!”

What must Obama have thought as he looked upon this? Hey, “Senator Gossip Girl,” I’m up here. You know, Nero fiddled while Rome burned, but at least he knew how to play an instrument. Folks, this is not a drill. This is the real thing. Our “booze cruise” has hit the iceberg. And I don’t want it to sink. We all need to get involved and learn how to do things and make things again. This is the moment where we must steel our resolve, reach through our blanket screens, grab our farting phone and send off a mighty Twitter saying, ‘Yes, we can!!‘.”

I don't like Bill Maher, but I dislike even more the people who act righteous about poking fun at a guy who wrastled snakes for a living.

Although, minus your verbal diarhea on display at times, i assume you're a decent person, and would not tolerate somebody dying to be a gag.

But, i'd also think you'd see the rationale in attacking someone like irwin, who in my oppinion seemed to just be a bully towards animals for show.

I like Bill and agree with his views on religions. Plus he is FUNNY.But he goes off to much about the republicans and not enough about the democrats. I am neither for the record.

Big deal; Bill isn't any funnier than Obama himself:

Uh Oh, White House Seeks Economic Advice From Twitter (http://www.businessinsider.com/uh-oh-white-house-seeks-economic-advice-from-twitter-2009-3)

So, Obama is seeking economic advice from the co-founder of a business model that raises no revenue? Sweet...

I really fucking doubt Obama thought any of that seeing as how he let Pelosi write the bill stealing trillions from Americans.

I doubt Obama even read the damn thing.

Jesus Christ. Use your brains. Maher can't just bash Bush for the next 4 years, so he will pick on the little piglets while sucking some Obama dick. Way to go you rebel you. Way to stand up against the establishment you have bitched about for so long :lmao

Bill Maher is fucking awesome. I was pissed when ABC pussed-out and canned Politically Incorrect when the right-wing fucktards got their panties in a bunch over his comment about the hijackers, but it was for the better as Real Time is far superior. :toast

Wasn't Obama one of these new-gen pansies who cry when they can't use their blackberries...

I watch HBO on fri. nights every once in a while and his show is lame. His audience doesn't even laugh at his lame crackerjack jokes. These loser celebs he has on his panel are also a joke.

The little troll man can go eat shit. I respect his political incorrectness even though maybe only 30% is on point.

Damn, you gotta be pretty sensitive to cancel HBO because of Maher's show.

It wasn't just that. But the price you paid for Sopranos etc to listen to their bullshit political stuff...and it goes beyond Mahr but how their 'special' programming was a bit too much for me. Same reason I don't watch Comedy Central. Political rapped up in entertainment stuff...no thanks. I watch sports on TV...otherwise it's generally off. I do watch CNBC, FOX and CNN on rare occassion.

So it wasn't THE reason.

The Sopranos jumped the shark in season 2 anyway.

word
03-13-2009, 10:01 PM
No, season 2 is when most people started tuning in...even after that. When they killed Big Pussy I was hurt...hurt I tell you. Then they had Deadwood which was good for three shows and made the mistake of killing the most colorful character in the 3rd episode...wild bill...but it was a good show. No man, back in the 80's when HBO first came out..all movies...Then they went' HBO special with comedians...which was cool..then HBO productions..some good some bad...then political....and I'm out. HBO should be movies in my little brain. Comedy Central should be comedy...when they go off the reservation...I sign off. It's my prerogative to do so and I did. Once my contract for sat ends, I'm off that too. I just need my Spurs games when they are on. My Longhorn games during CFB season and I'll leave the ranting and raving to you.
