Dropped her off this morning at the SA Airport for her flight to D.C. This is her first time flying and her firs real time away from home. I'm nervous as hell.
She's 14 and this is a choir trip and she'll back late Monday night. We are very excited for her as she'll be visiting some great places while in DC and enjoying time with her friends. We are hoping she'll have the time of her young life.
We miss her already. :(
She just sent me a text and she's in Dallas for her connecting flight to DC. So far so good.
I've got all the cell ph#'s of all the chaperons and will be checking in on her often.
My baby is growing up.

I got scared the first time and mine only went to Austin! I was never so thankful for cell phones and text messaging.

Aren't you scared? D.C. has one of the highest crime rates. There are nothing but drug dealers and gangmembers there. Not to mention the paedophiles that love little girls/boys... and that's just the politicians.

just kidding dude.

I feel your apprehension as well. My daughter is going to Germany this summer for 3 1/2 weeks with her German club. I'm not as worried about the exchange student portion of trip as I am the 10 nights they will stay in teen hostels while traveling around. I can't get those stupid "Hostel" movies out of my head.:bang

My oldest girl is turning 12 soon, man do they grow up fast.....man i'm getting old.

I wouldn't be able to sleep at night if she went on a trip without me.

I can imagine how it feels but don't really know. I'm 24 and don't want kids anytime soon. But I know when I traveled from Little Rock to Dallas, El Paso, then drove down to Mexico and my mom was on wits end every time I called her. I made it alright because she was right there even miles away, so I'm sure she will have fun and make it back alright.

Watch Taken together and make it a point to mention (several times) that you do not have the special training that girl's father did.

She should be in good hands going with the choir. Glad you are able to check in with her to be sure everything's OK.

LOL, I remember my first flight - at 15 - only I didn't tell my parents bc I wanted to go to both a programming contest in SA and a band trip to Dallas the same weekend (can you say total nerd?). For some reason I thought they'd say no so never even thought of asking them.

So the contest went fine (we won), the Southwest flight was cool (a couple of other band parents accompanied me), the band trip was fun, and then when I get back to SA there's a freaking huge picture of the programming sponsor in the Sunday Light showing him holding our trophy (we had left for the airport by the time the presentation was made) along with the names of the team. Busted? You betcha. My old man read the paper like a hawk every day of his adult life.

Needless to say the next couple of months were not a fun time around the old house.

Taken was awesome! Liam Neeson was totally badass in that movie!

Nice :lol

Mine makes knives on the weekends. Something handy to mention to the daughter's dates during the teenage years.

Well it'll be a tough weekend for you, but she's gonna love it. My 12 yr old (13 in April) is going on her first orchestra trip in May. And I am really, really hoping that her trips are nothing like the band trips I went on in high school!
