Man, lakerfans are insecure.

why would laker fans coming to a Spurs forum to try and validate their team be insecure?

Man In Black

I'd take him and unlike Kobe, Tim doesn't mind giving up some salary to allow his team the needed cap flexibility to ensure they contend in his era.

From what I hear locally out here in So Cal, Kobe Bryant us of the mentality that he's entitled to full max and will leave it up to Dr. Buss on how to keep the other guys.

Tim's entitled to max but ask him what's more important?
That is why Tim is the best PF to ever lace them up.

Kobe will have to let of a lot of money, make about 8-9 million for the Lakers to have a chance to get a decent player. Not happening. I don't blame him. In the end, Kobe is a businessman and why should he try to give money back to Buss when Buss is far more richer than him?

I've watched him a little bit and he usually looks like a stiff, but 23 rebounds is pretty impressive. Is Dawson hurt?

You know why this is funny? Because it really means that the the LAL will lose either Odom or Ariza. While it's true Dr. Buss is richer than Bean, it's also true that Dr. Buss ain't the richest owner in the Association. His biggest moneymaker is the Lakers. He ain't got loads of dot-com cash like Cuban, he doesn't own a gambling empire like the Brothers Maloof, nor was he involved in innovative software operating systems like Paul Allen, or own one of America's largest mall chains like the Brothers Simon.

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/sports_blog/2008/10/sports-super-ri.html
This is the most recent list and it pre-dates the economy falling off a cliff but I'm wondering if you guys will even pay attention to the lead in.

Forbes magazine's September issue includes its annual list of the 400 richest Americans. Two notable names not on their list of the "athletically affluent": Lakers' owner Jerry Buss and Beverly Hills landlord and Clippers' owner Donald Sterling.
Meaning...NOT RICH ENOUGH. While he's been willing to pay the dollar-for-dollar luxury tax, will it continue if they don't win the title yet again?

nope - just a weak attempt to continue a fruitless quest to try and convince yourself that the team you root for is the best team in the NBA. At the end of the day, all you accomplished is once again proving that you're an ass and as much as you pound your chest the reality is that the team you root for has not won jack shit to this point. All the Spurs can offer is the mid-level exception, which:

1) LA would certainly match
2) LA would certainly wait the full week to try to keep the Spurs from using it on Rasheed or McDyess

Ariza will be an unrestricted free agent this summer. Lakers have no way to decide where he will go this summer.

LOL...this has been an entertaining morning read.

As far as Ariza goes, I seriously doubt the Spurs will waste their time. The Lakers will match whatever offer to keep him there and I think they will be more interested in someone like Wallace as he can probably be had for the MLE.

I'm thinking that the FA market may be a wasteland this summer. If I'm the owners looking to reign in cost I'd let it be known that the next CBA will have a hard cap and/or a really punitive luxury tax that's has no retroactive exceptions at least not post-Spring 2009. Something like hat happens and Lakers would be screwed on both Odom and Ariza.

Without the ability to go over cap, pick up gifts like Gasol, or sign away other team's players like Shaq, basically buy an extra impact player, enjoy the end of your run.

5 pages for this line: "...I’d favor the Spurs consideration of Ariza as an MLE candidate this offseason. But I’ll save that for another time."

It's a throwaway line that probably should have been edited out. The line doesn't even rise to the level of thoughtful speculation. It's simply a gut reaction to the Lakers defense of Parker. Everyone should move along.

ur a fucking dumbass i asked what school you work for in the LA unified school distrcit are you that fucking dense that you cant put 2 and 2 together...

Okay...DUMBASS.
This is called a logic tree.

I pointed out that I used to post at LG and win so often that I riled the inmates too much.

Then I pointed out that "YOU HAVE NO GAME."

Then I added to the point that your English skills are truly lacking and said that here in San Diego these basic skills are taught and that I worry for the students in the LA Unified.

To wit, you responded 1 minute later that where is the LA Unified?

Then 23 minutes later, you FINALLY respond that the LA Unified is a School District. Nice but SLOW use of a search engine. I'm sure like everything you do...you just GOOGLED it.

To which you respond with this quote:

ur a fucking dumbass i asked what school you work for in the LA unified school distrcit are you that fucking dense that you cant put 2 and 2 together...

So, why is it that you think I'm a teacher in the LA Unified School District? If this logic is what you use daily to "put 2 and 2 together" then I worry for your family. I am not a school teacher nor do I live in LA. I do, on a regular basis...take LAL fans to School by showing them that the Lakers haven't had enough to win a title. I've been correct now for 7 straight years. I'm angling for an 8th consecutive one.

Now using the logic tree I've laid out...truly, it's obvious to us all who is truly the dumbass...DUMBASS.

Seeing as Udoka is probably gone after this year, and Bowen and Finley have 1 year left.....if we were able to get Ariza, I would go for it. I mean, he has shown that he is willing to commit on the defensive end. He has 3pt range and will attack the basket too.

However, I doubt he leaves LA.....and even if he does, I doubt he lands here in SA.....he will go somewhere where he can start.

Though I wholeheartedly agree with those who have said the Fakers will do everything to keep Ariza, I don't why the Spurs wouldn't be interested in a player of his size and skill set. Obviously, they don't have a young, 6'8" SF who can defend and shoot the occasional 3-ball. They've needed one for about 5 years now. Had they been able to obtain Nic Batum, the problem would've been solved. Since they didn't, Ariza wouldn't be a bad get.

It's not a stone-cold lock that Dr. Buss would match anyways. He is not among the most richest of NBA owners. His largest source of income is derived from the Lakers, he doesn't have gobs of cash from a dot-com past like Cuban, or is married to a member of the Wal-Mart family like Stan Kroenke of Denver, or own a gambling empire like the Maloofs, or a Shopping Mall empire like the Simons. He's just good ol' Jerry who parties with girls younger than Jeanie and tries to drive through San Diego County while intoxicated.

So again...when it gets down to it, Kobe will not and has not indicated that he will take a pay cut to make it easier for the Lakers to make signings. Both Odom and Ariza can leave unless they get what they want, and Dr. Buss has only shown a willingness to pay the luxury-tax in an effort to win. If they can't this year, is he willing to pay it again?

Again...not a stone-cold lock.

Ariza would be great on SA but I think either LA will make sure he stays there or someone else will pay more than we can.

SF is exactly where we need help and Ariza would be perfect, but I think we'll be looking to acquire via trade (I've heard talk about Richard Jefferson) rather than free agency.

That being said, this offseason will be interesting because so many teams are geared up for next offseason and with the economy being so bad, there could be some bargains to be had. Who knows. It should be interesting, and I just hope we can get some SF help in the end.

No way. We don't need to be getting older. Plus 'Sheed is something of a head case and though I think he wouldn't present any problems in that department with SA, he's too old and I don't think we'll need the kind of help he can provide. Our big man roster going into camp will be something like: TD-KT-Bonner-Mahinmi-FA. I think the free agent will be someone younger like Pops or maybe Gooden if he does well with us.

I like Sheed, but he's old and slipping. Unless he's willing to take a lot less money, I would rather we go elsewhere.

We need to spend our money/trade capital on a small forward rather than an aging big man.

I don't think Odom's going anywhere either but his future's a bit shakier (than Ariza) with the Lakers because of his $11 million salary.

But Odom's said he'd take a paycut to stay with the Lakers.

If he was still insisting on $11 million, Odom would be gone. But at around $8 million a year over 3-4 years, he's a steal.

Buss has to suck it up in 2009/2010 season and pay the mega-payroll. If the Lakers win a title this year, he'll do it.

But in 2010/2011 they can get rid of Morrison's $7 million a year and Fish's $5 million for a more reasonable payroll. Of course the Lakers have been shopping Luke's $5 million but strangely, there aren't any takers :lol

So it's one heavy year then it's fine after that, Buss would have to be really short-sighted and cheap to not pay up this year.

The Lakers are certainly lucky that they play in Hollywood/LA, they're still #3 behind Celtics & Knicks in profitability.

I'm the first to admit alot of the Lakers success comes from their being in LA...lots of expectations and the money to go with it.

The amazing thing about the Spurs is that they've won 4 rings in the last 10 years with a shoestring budget.

I kinda wish the NBA was more like the NFL, in that you couldn't exceed the cap....you simply have to either cut players or have them restructure to fit into the cap parameters.

Now, on the other hand, the luxury tax idea is a great one, but I wish the penalties for exceeding it were a bit steeper, instead of being penalized $1 for $1 for the amount you go over the threshold, maybe it could be $1.50 for $1 you go over the threshold. So if you go over by $20 million, instead of playing $40 million, you would actually have to play $50 million in luxury tax.

Like I stated in an earlier post, I doubt we have enough to go after Ariza....but it sure would be sweet if we could get him.

Ideally, I would like for the Spurs to re-sign Gooden, bring Gist over from Europe, and then sign Ariza.

2009-2010
C - Bonner, Ian, Thomas
PF - Duncan, Gooden, Oberto
SF - Ariza, Bowen, Gist
SG - Mason, Manu, Finley
PG - Parker, Hill, Hairston

I'd do that deal in a heartbeat. Parker for any of the Laker points. Ginobili for Kobe (I could dream), Mason or Bowen for Ariza, and any of our bigs (except Tim) for any of their bigs (Odom, Walton, Bynum, even Mbenga). The Laker players are, generally speaking, that much better.
