The problem we've been having for the past month or so is due to the bench. It's not because of Rasho's lack of offensive power, or Tony's unclutch play in the 4th Quarters or Manu and Duncan's injuries. Our bench has not been what it was in the begining of the season when it seemed they were clicking, passing the ball, and hitting their shots.
1) Barry: Biggest sucker of them all. I have given up on him. Seriously, these past few games he has has the oppurtunity to show himself and step up his game, he hasn't. He is a 30 year old basketball player, making millions of dollars, he should not have to be babied. You can argue that Pop needs to run more plays for him or that he needs the ball more in his hands, he needs more consistent minutes etc. but honestly, he has has 60 games to get his act together and aside from that one Pheonix game and perhaps one or two games in the begining of the season he has not been memorable whatsoever. Even Hedo had some highlight games last season with us.
2) Horry: Dude needs to retire. I honestly have not seen much of his veteran savvyness that everyone praises him for. Here is a guy who has won what, 5 championships? Start playing like it. He was horrible tonight, yet Pop continued to play him. He was 0-3, had 2 TO's and grabbed about 4 rebounds. Additionally, his defense is a little slow. As with Barry, he's been MIA this season, except for maybe a game or two.
3) Brown: Has been very inconsistent as of late. Could be due to the sporadic minutes he has been receiving. I think Brown needs to learn how be a better decision maker and have better shot selection. He often-times rushes his shots when he thinks he's on fire, kind of like what Tony does. His positives is that he rebounds and can play some defense, which is more than I can say for the previous two.
4) Beno: Had a bad game tonight with a lot of TO's. Overall, I think his underperformances as of late is on Pop. He should be getting a lot more minutes than he has been which has lowered his productivity, not to mention Tony's since he has been playing a lot of minutes. Beno is a pretty solid backup PG for a rookie and Pop should be giving him all the minutes he can right now to get him ready for playoff time.
5) Mass: Although the human foul machine has been playing decently lately, I still do not want him taking shots at the end of close games--the results are not good: See Suns and Nuggets game. The problem with Mass is that he isn't as great of a decision maker as he should be considering he is a veteran. Then again, I really never expected much from him, so anything he does is a bonus.
6) Wilks: Great game vs the Suns, he could have taught Barry a thing or two. Pop should try to give him more minutes and see what he can do when he gets some more playing time.
That's just my two cents...let the arguing begin :)
