Why make Gooden compete for shots with Tim and Tony by starting him? That also leaves you with no post scoring off the bench again. Matching Gooden against other team's bench players is a HUGE mismatch most games.

Yes. They took him out and brought in Mason and Finley and there went the lead! No defense! Sick of this crap! Ime had the hot hand and was scrapping out there for every loose ball, rebounding, solid defense and scoring and you take him out! WTF! Pop needs to be taken to task as well for this stupid decision!

My question, why isn't Timmy getting the ball at the end at least he can draw the defense in and then get the ball to the shooters instead of putting in Parker's hands as they were waiting for him and the lane was not clear!:bang:bang:bang:bang

Starting Kurt Thomas out on Yao was a good idea. It kept Timmy out of early foul trouble. I like the same thing with Kurt on Shaq and Timmy on Amare (when Amare is healthy). I don't put much focus on starters..and I thought you already knew this, Sequ. I place importance on individual matchups from game to game. I think basketball fans should look at who finishes games and who plays well in crunch-time.

By the way, Drew Gooden isn't ready for prime time. He was awful and he had more to do with the Spurs losing their lead in the 1st half than any other single Spurs player. Mason and Hill were also part of the problem during that stretch, with no offense, uncrisp passing, and getting out-hustled by the Rockets' bench, plus Scola.

This is a very silly thread. The Spurs finished the last 2:30 of the game like the 16th best team instead of the 5th best team in the NBA. They are certainly not the best team and they haven't been all year...Cleveland and LA have been.

Come playoff time, the 5th best team is going to have to have Manu ready to go with Tim, TP and 6 other role players in order to advance past the 2nd round.

Speaking with hindsight, the Spurs shouldn't have played Gooden the last two games. Giving his time to Oberto (or even just adding it to Thomas' total) would have likely resulted in at least one victory.

Incorporating a new player with Duncan struggling physically and Manu out of the lineup was too tall of a task.

You cant blame Pop for playing him after the way he played against the Rockets last time....

Advancing the adolescence of this thread for the benefit of those in basketball kindergarten.

It's just not that big a deal about who starts a game.

Bonner started after a one-game matchup haitus, the Spurs did just fine when he was in there, he went 4-6 with 10 points, and he didn't play in crunch time. Starters don't win games, finishers win games.

what does that have to with the celtic, rocket and okc game and not to mention the ass kicking the cavs laid on the spurs?

Why did you start this senseless thread all giddy about Thomas starting a game? What difference did it make other than keeping Timmy out of foul trouble (which was smart, btw)? Kinder class is clearly in session.
