Barbosa's impact can't be understated, either, especially with a guy like JR Smith on the other side. Smith likes to go off on us, and we don't have anyone to guard him effectively.

Never underestimate the Mavs' ability to choke. They're quite talented at it.

The Suns will probably have to go 11-2 the rest of the way to have a good shot of making it in. Looking at our next four games (Denver, Utah, @Portland, @Utah), I don't like our chances at all.

I agree, the Suns have a tough time here on out, but I won't be surprised if they don't at least close the gap between 8and 9 very close before the season ends.

They actually have a fair shot at Denver, since the Nuggets have been somewhat random with the quality of their play as of late.

Xylus
03-23-2009, 04:06 PM
The Nuggets' play as of late has resembled the Suns', strangely. They went through a rough patch against quality teams, and then a 4- or 5-game winning streak against weak competition.

Should actually be a good game tonight. I'll check it out: Billups and Nash are both fun to watch.

They can't win all four, that's obvious. They need to take care of home court and hopefully get lucky enough to win one of the road games in 2 of the toughest arenas to get a road win at and the two arenas where the refs give by far the most calls to the home team.

There is no way in hell they can win both of those away games, so tonight's game is basically whether or not they have a 0% chance or a 7% chance.

-1. Our guys didn't choke to the Cheat, we got fucked by the refs. Hence the title under my name (2006 NBA Champions).

Also, we didn't choke to the Warriors, it was just a bad match up they were expected to win.

If the Suns don't win this game, they can pretty much kiss their playoff hopes goodbye.

I am actually hoping the Suns to get the 8th spot and be ready to rumble with the Lakers. Shaq, as old and antiquated as he is, is a tough match-up for Gasol and Bynum combined. Put Barbosa on Kobe and you get a match, made-in-heaven a la the Warriors vs. the Mavs in 2007!

Go Suns!!!!

Dragic has made incredible progress in the last 6-8 weeks. He's still not completely worth the buyout money Suns had to fork over, but the speed of the game doesn't seem to overwhelm him anymore and he has fresh legs. Active defense last night, good decisions on the break, and a key 3-pointer made him pretty valuable last night off the bench.

I'm happy he's been playing better lately. I felt bad for him earlier where he could not doing anything right. I wonder if Porter was pressuring him too much? Hell porter stopped playing him altogether for a while there. Gentry is somehow getting away with giving him a few minutes and still getting the win granted most of the competition has been weak lately.

Agreed. This was probably the one game this season where you could argue the Suns might not have won if they didn't have Dragic.

Quick criticism though, Nash needs to stop running high pick and rolls with Shaq, and simply feed him down low. They never work, and Nash's love for running the high pick and roll every god dam time up the court almost threw the game away because Shaq had Birdman guarding him down low, and rather than expose the size difference, Nash ran pick and rolls, something Birdman is really good at defending.

This is where Gentry needs to begin the process of developing an actual half court offense that can be relied on late in close games against good teams.

I agree - Nene should have been thrown out earlier for the clothesline. That elbow wasn't nearly as bad, but I supposed the refs thought it was a "cumulative" ejection. Even things as simple as balls going out of bounds seemed difficult for this crew.

It actually isn't too surprising that the Nuggets lost. They've had absolutely no success playing in Phoenix. I think they last won here in 2003?

Idk, it's been awhile. I remember last year they were up by 19 at half time in Phoenix but lost.

PS - have you ever played a pickup game at the rec center against this roughly 6'4" extremely fat guy (like easily 300 pounds probably closer to 325) w/ blond hair where all he does is camp out in the paint?

Me and a few friends were playing against a team he was on yesterday, and I'm the overall biggest person of the 5 (and it's not like I'm huge or anything) so I had to guard him. He was so annoying and it was so un-fun to guard him and his repeated offensive fouls he used to establish post position that I was almost ready to call three in the key but I didn't want to be "That guy". I woke up today and I feel like I was fucked by train a cause my legs are so sore.

I think I know who you're talking about, but I've never had the privilege of guarding him, considering I'm 5'11", 140 lbs, and would have absolutely no chance of stopping him.

When I went to play there last night, I was on the same team as this 6'4" dude who's really skinny and looks like the giant from the movie Big Fish (see below). He's pretty good, but he literally bitches aloud on every. fucking. play. He bitches about teammates. He bitches about opponents. He bitches about foul calls. He bitches about missed shots, turnovers, passes that don't go to him, etc. Softest piece of shit I've ever played with. I got so fed up with him that I started berating his lack of effort on D for the entire court to hear.

Ya I'm 6'2" on a good day and roughly 225. That sounds like a decently big person but not really when the guy I'm guarding has 100 pounds on me. I really don't have a low center of gravity either, if I had huge legs or even a decent sized gut for leverage it would have been easier to guard him. You know it's not basketball if being fat would make it easier to guard him.

The guy I was guarding is a soft piece of shit considering he had a 2-3 inch and 100 pound advantage on me and shot like 2 for 7 in 1 game and 2 for 5 in the other.

If Stromile Swift had half the energy and heart that Amundson has, then we wouldn't even miss Amare with the way Shaq is playing.

I'm pretty much thinking this is an LSU thing since Tyrus Thomas is an equally lazy malcontent.

Agree completely. If you ever read David Thorpe's chats on ESPN, he's the biggest Ty Thomas apologist I've ever seen. Apparently, Thomas works out with Thorpe in Orlando in the offseason and is a "great kid, with a lot of heart who gets a bad rap." I think after 3 years in the league, a "bad rap" turns into "an accurate representation of your career."

On a side note, Thorpe is one of the worst analysts I've ever read on that site and I think he only has a job because he looks like that guy from the Brady Bunch.

My friend is a Bulls fan and he practically nutted himself when the Bulls traded Lamarcus Aldridge for him (I still give him shit for that) and back when Kobe was demanding a trade he was actually mad they might involve Ty Thomas in a trade for Kobe. He is literally Stro Swift pt. 2.

And yeah, being lazy doesn't mean you're an asshole, it just means you're lazy. Greg Oden really has no interest in playing basketball, but everyone knows he's a nice guy.

Ok, it's common knowledge that Reggie Miller is dumber than Chad Ford, David Thorpe, Bill Walton, and Skip Bayless combined.

I'm talking about when people rip on Thorpe/Thomas when he makes seemingly no progress each season and grudgingly attends the dunk contest to "get a paycheck."

But you have brought an interesting discussion into the mix... do you guys think there is an NCAA team out there that could beat any of the bottom 4 teams in the league? Factors such as matchups, neutral courts, time of year, rules, etc could all apply but I'd like to know what you guys think.

If you had college rules in effect (40 min, 2 halves, 5 fouls, 10 second backcourt, closer 3 pt line), I think UConn could probably beat the Clippers with a packed house in Hartford at least 33% of the time.

I'd like to see Thorpe in 1955: "the dumbest thing I've heard all year is that a team of white guys from rural Indiana could beat a bigger, more athletic team from Indianapolis; and then they'd turn this into a movie. Please."
