I just finished watching the best cop show ever in tv history. 7 amazing seasons. This isnt like CSI,Law and Order etc etc. This show is so real from the storylines to the way it is shot. Michael Chiklas (Vic Mackey) is a badass. I strongly recommend this show. It is a tough gritty cop show but it is so fucking good. Unlike those other cop shows, this is a show that carries over from episode to episode and season to season. The writing was brilliant. Each season is 13-14 episodes.

most of the cop shows today are lame, expecially when you got the main character always trying to act cool/serious with the camera zooming in....lol hiracio from csi miami. are they tryin to make it like the bold and beautiful with the freeze and zoom ins...

The Shield will have you hooked by the end of the first episode. Just watch the first disc. If you arent hooked, then you at least tried. What is great is the storylines carry over.

I've never seen The Shield, however it sounds like a police procedural so I'll also make the comparison if one would deign to call it that. In any event, it could be hands-down great, but I guarantee it's not even a third as good as David Simon's masterpiece. Because not only is The Wire the best cop show ever, it's simply the best show ever.

Not even close, 2009 me.

Just finished the series. I'm glad I stuck with it, because seasons 5-7 were thoroughly enjoyable, and all of the talk about how satisfyingly the series ends is on the money. One of the best final episodes I've ever seen.

But if I had to go back and do it again, I'd have somebody give me a quick summary of seasons 1-4 and start at season 5.
