Tony, will you be on the court tonight against New Orleans ?
I received a knee to the thigh in our loss to Denver. I am having a bit of hard time walking and I can’t put any weigh on my leg. Having talked with Gregg Popovich, I have decided not play tonight. I need the rest to get back in shape physically.

Hence, you join Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili in the Spurs’ training room…
It is weird. Manu will miss tonight’s game but there remains hope for Tim. He is day-to-day, hence he could play tonight but we are all broken up. With the play-offs beginning in a month, Pop wishes not to take a risk and would rather bench us in order to rest.

Tim Duncan played last Tuesday while he sustained an ankle injury two days prior and the result was that he missed the important Phoenix and Denver games.
Pop did not wanted Tim to play but he insisted on him playing against Nets. We don’t need to whine, it is now in the past. Now, we must do with our healthy players. If I played against Phoenix and Denver last week, it was that, at the time, I was the least’ injured (Laughs). I tried to stir the ship but tonight I must give the helm. Priority one is the health of the players if we are all going to keep our home court advantage for the playoffs.

30 points against Phoenix, 25 against Denver, but unfortunately, your performances were not enough to bring home the win for the Spurs.
We have done a very good job against Phoenix. Play head-to –head against the Suns while you are without Duncan and Gino, is not something just any team can pull. The victory came on a few details as we were still tied within two minutes of the end of the game. Against Denver, I cannot say the contrary, but we have messed up. With a 7 points lead with 3 minutes to play, we did not have the right to loose.

Usually, the bench is San Antonio’s strength. Didn’t the bench was a bit powerless during Duncan’s and Gino’s absences ?
It is true that I am a bit disappointed. I was very excited at the beginning of the season when I was looking at the bench but it could be a bit under our 2003 bench, the year we won the title. It is a good thing to have a few injured players as it makes the players on the bench endorse more responsibilities. They have a good challenge ahead of them.

Who will lead the team tonight ?
Beno (Udrih) will start and normally Mike Wilks will be his backup.

Is Tony saying that he's been disappointed in the bench so far this season?

I think he is.

IMO, he should just come out and say

Brent Barry has sucked hind wind.

Period. Brown has performed as expected.

Beno has EXCEEDED expectations.

Horry similar, Massenburg, similar.

Nazr INC

whos the one that is dissapointing??

Yup,

Senor Barry.

in french he did not say he was disappointed. However the way he said it there were no misunderstanding possible: he mean it!
he used the past tence to say how he believed the bench was deep. he said that hopefully with the injury it will help them step up and hopefully be ready for the playoff.
it is the second time i hear him say not so nice stuff about the bench: the first one he was talking about beno and brent not in the rythm.
However he said in another interview that Nazr seemed really fine.

"whos the one that is dissapointing??"

The Barry haters are relentless. Devin has sucked pretty badly, too, the last couple months. Nov/Dec he was as great as his playoff performance last May might have indicated, then he cratered. It's only the last couple games that Devin has been able to hit the side of the SBC again.

timvp mentioned brown sucked the last couple of months in a thread yesterday I rember reading that
he likes brown to..............

How weak is the Spurs bench? I agree with picnroll. The Spurs team has a pretty weak bench, especially compared to teams of the past. Devin Brown is the team's highest bench scorer and he's played horrible for the better part of the last two months. The only way the bench turns it around is if Barry or Brown start playing well and Nazr becomes a force. timvp

Yes, but I think the problem everyone has is: Brent Barry has still sucked these last couple of games and he's still NOT able to hit a shot.

Personally, they all suck! :) Trade the whole lot of them, All we need is Nazr for some toughness and rebounding, Malik for some energy and heart, and Kerr for some luck and timely three pointers. The starting five can take care of the rest... :spin
