If he doesn't win Idol the whole thing is a sham. He's got the talent, the charisma, the looks.
'Satisfaction' was great. 'Ring of Fire' incredible. Tonight, with 'Tracks of my Tears' he sealed it. What a performance.

I hope that Kris guy wins. He's got a hot young wife, plays the guitar, doesn't wear nail polish or butcher otherwise classic Johnny Cash songs.
No really, Lambert is good, but I'm not going to follow Paula Abdul's lead and say it's over now. And the judges need to cut that shit out. It's okay to say that someone has the best performance of the night but someone will come out and do the third song of the night, bring the house down, and Paula's right there saying "I'm already looking at the next American Idol," just like she does every year, and there's still 10 weeks to go.
But he bombed Ring of Fire. The vocals were good but that arrangement was a mother fucking travesty. There are certain rules when covering songs and he broke about five of them when he turned Ring of Fire into something you'd find on Zohan's (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0960144/) iPod.
He's probably the best contestant right now but I'm going to give it a few more weeks to see how the others adapt. About half of them really suck at picking out songs though. Like really bad. This is a horrible year for song selection so far.
The Top 5 will be:
1. Lambert
2. Allison
3. Robert Downey, Jr.
4. Kris Allen
5. Whitebread Stevie Wonder/Tattooed Arm
I bet you Lil Rounds is voted off this week. She fucking sucked it up bad.

I liked it. I've heard it several times since he did it on the show and it grew on me. His vocals carry it.
This is a horrible year for song selection so far.
Except for Lambert. I think he's made great choices and he's proven he can pull off different stuff. It should go far to keep him in it.
I agree that there's a lot of time to go, but this guy stands way above the rest for me. He can sing.
Maybe I'll listen to it on acid, since that what it sounds like what would be required for me to think positively of that song's arrangement. If he arranged it himself then it was a huge gaffe on his part despite his vocals.
Sorry to hate on your boy, but I am an equal opportunity hater.

I have to say I did not like Ring of Fire. For me, it was way over the top, bordering on silly. Everything else he's done has been really great, though, but I wonder if the novelty of his look and sound will wear off and people will want to hear something from him other than falsetto. Other contenders: Matt Giraud (I'm still waiting for him to break from the pack), Allison. Megan Joy is annoying as hell. :lol

I liked Adam's "Ring of Fire" but didn't like the fact that he took a " week off " and knew he would get through the next round. It was country week but he didn't even attempt to sing a country song. If it was maybe pop week or alternative, that rendition would've been great but not for country. Lil Rounds, being an R&B singer sang " Independance Day " straight up and did a great job. I don't want to call it cheating, but Adam knew he could've sang " Somewhere Over The Rainbow " and still make it through. :(
I didn't think he looked like Robert Downey Jr. My bad.

^I hated that. He sounds like he is in some Disco Musical or something.
The real star behind Adam's performance this week was whoever did the stage lighting and background effects. I'd pay to own that trippy stage. His Broadway version of Play That Funky Music was decent but I'll be damned if Robert Downey, Jr. didn't own the pants off of everyone else.
Adam's musical theater background is starting to put me off on his performances. His Ring of Fire and Funky Music covers are straight off Broadway. No pun intended.
I also liked Kris Allen's Ain't No Sunshine this week.

Adam has the (un)fortunate distinction of being crowned the winner of Idol 8 during Top 11 week so he's got a golden ticket to at least the top 3. He could sing the Power Rangers theme song next week and still probably get the most votes. But I'm sure 95% of women are going to vote for Robert Downey, Jr. because they feel bad about his wife dying. That and he'll probably end up in an Egyptian Deathmatch with Adam for the finals unless Kris Allen loses some confidence and fucks up.

he's taking the stance of the producer/record company that is shelling out the millions of dollars that goes into putting someone out there in the setting that they're put in.
Song selection this season has been balls to the wall awful, and next week is "song from the year of your birth" week. Which is going to suck because all of them except Allison were born in the 80s and the 80s is known for bad pop music and even worse automobiles.
They really need to alternate from week to week, having the idols pick their own song and then the next week let the judges do it.

Kris Allen bombed what should have been the best song of the night. I'm not sure anyone was "really good" tonight but the verdict is in and the contestants this year really SUCK at picking their own songs. Producer intervention with regard to song selection is the only thing that can save this season.

The Watcher: 'American Idol' keeps dissing viewers (http://www.ocregister.com/articles/the-watcher-american-2359275-idol-keeps-dissing-viewers)
This week's time overrun, which caused people with DVRs to miss the final singer, is part of a pattern.
By Michael Hewitt
"American Idol" hates you.
OK, perhaps "hate" is too strong a word, but as Tuesday's episode proved once more, the show treats its audience with tremendous disdain.
In case you missed it: "American Idol" ran eight minutes long, and DVRs all over America stopped recording before contestant Adam Lambert got to perform.
And how did the folks at "American Idol" respond to the latest gaffe? By pointing fingers. When bloggers criticized host Ryan Seacrest for not managing the time better, he quickly blamed the producers. Simon Cowell blamed Paula Abdul.
But no one stepped forward to apologize to Adam or to the viewers for the screw-up, and no one promised to do better in the future. Nor are they likely to.
Why? Because "American Idol" doesn't care.
Running over doesn't harm "American Idol" or Fox.
By bleeding into the next hour, the show discourages viewers from changing the channel. Given the enormous size of the "AI" audience, the overrun inevitably raises the ratings for the next hour a bit. It also keeps those viewers away from other networks, if only for a few minutes.
The unpredictable show length also encourages viewers to watch "AI" live rather than record it, which the sponsors prefer. (And you'll notice that the commercials always make it in before the scheduled end time.) If the folks recording "American Idol" miss part of an episode because it ran long, well, too bad for them.
Lousy time management isn't the only way "AI" treats its audience poorly. Last season, Paula Abdul called the show's integrity into question by critiquing a performance she had not seen yet.
How did "American Idol" respond? Ryan Seacrest asked people to stop being mean to Paula. A year later, we're still waiting for an explanation of what happened.
Maybe the disdain for the viewers will erode the "American Idol" brand over the long term, but that doesn't seem likely. Putting up with poor service to get a product you like is not that unusual these days. (Any Slingbox owners out there?)
So pad your DVR recording time and learn to deal with the dysfunctional relationship.
You love "American Idol," but "American Idol" is not that into you.

I always record and watch later, but this week I happened to be watching semi-live (pausing to put the kids in bed, fast-forwarding through commercials). Anyway, so I didn't realize it ran so late. Eight minutes is a really long time. How do you mismanage an hour show into 8 minutes of overtime?

In other news he's going to make some man out there very happy one day. If he hasn't already.totally. this guy is a musical queen. every time i hear and see him i think i'm at a vegas hotel. i mean, he's good at what he does, but it's no american idol type stuff. i thought it was a horrible song. when i think "singing", born to be wild isn't top of my list when i think of a "singing" type song, but hey..........people are mystified by flashing lights and big stages these days.

It's too bad Adam didn't compete last season so David Cook could have owned his ass off the show in the third week of live performances. If Adam wins it's because he was the best bad contestant this season had to offer.

I agree 1000% it really showed this week. I was like "Umm? He's really good, and he's still going to win. But, I'll bet you that he's going to make a record and then not sell a lot because he just isn't that 'pop' sound that sells like David Cook, Kelly Clarkson, and Daughtry."

His first album is probably going to be called "Adam Lambert sings Somewhere Over The Rainbow, and 12 other songs little girls listened to while he was a little gay boy growing up in LA"
If that can all fit on the album cover.
Like I said David Cook would have whooped this kid's ass head to head if he had tried out last year. I'm not sure if Lambert would have got past Archuleta either.

It may be a testament to just how damn good he is...but I really don't know what the guy's first album will sound like if he gets the idol contract. His vocal skill is un-freaking-deniable and he's shown some versatility on the show.
He's far and away the best overall talent left on the show, but I think that Chris guy or JT wannabe can give him a run for his money.

I would guess cause it was done by Donna Summer and since she was very active in the disco era, the actual date of the song doesnt matter!
Rules be damned!

Kris Allen is my favorite so far. If he injected a little more attitude into his performances and in general how he handles the competition, he would be an instant favorite to win. Adam has the most raw ability of any of them, but I feel like his performances are more about what he can do than what he can make the audience feel.
Gokey is good, but sucked last night.
Kris is consistently pretty good but seemed out of it last night. I rather liked his "Come Together" even though the judges hated it.
It's a weird final four. They're all very talented, but none of them is the traditional AI pop vocal powerhouse. Maybe that's because there wasn't a dress rehearsal yesterday.

Lambert -- ridiculous vocal range, obvious talent but appeal is limited because lots of people just don't like flamboyantly gay people, and besides Lambert tends to go all Broadway
Iraheta -- obvious talent, has won a talent competition on Telemundo before, but usually women in pop have to be very attractive to sell lots of records and she is kind of middling
Gokey -- Taylor Hicks with a better backstory and cool glasses
Allen -- I liked his character on Lost and am sad they had to kill him off. Looks much younger w/o the beard.

He came back strong last night, but a little to late. I actually wouldn't be surprised if Adam gets eliminated tonite. Exclusive: 'American Idol' alum Allison Iraheta officially signed to 19/Jive
Jun 9, 2009, 08:00 PM | by Tanner Stransky
Categories: American Idol, Music Biz, News, Reality TV
And the record deals for American Idol season 8 finalists continue to roll in at a quick clip. After champion Kris Allen's deal with 19/Jive and runner-up Adam Lambert's deal with 19/RCA were announced earlier this week, EW has exclusively learned that 19 Recordings has also signed fourth-place-finisher, rocker Allison Iraheta, and that her debut album will be licensed to Jive Records, like Allen's forthcoming disc. And just like the the albums from her two fellow alums, Iraheta's is anticipated for a fall release. (Talk about an Idol-rific autumn!)
All week long, Idol fan sites like mjsbigblog were abuzz with rumors of Iraheta's signing. The 17-year-old singer sounds like she's barely processing the news herself: “I think I’m still in shock that this is happening -- getting to record my first album and this whole awesome experience is a dream come true!” Allison said in a statement released to EW by 19 Recordings. (Excited? Check out PopWatch's exclusive "Rocker Signed" video!)
Notably absent from the recent spate of deal-making? That’d be polarizing third-place finisher, Danny Gokey. Says a rep at 19: "There’s nothing to report just yet."
And Surprise! Adam's Gay!
He's got a story in this upcoming Rolling Stone. It's lengthy so I won't post the whole thing.. here's the link and the first page.
Adam Lambert in His Own Words: Sexuality, Kris Allen and Life After Idol
http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/28577050/adam_lambert_in_his_own_words_sexuality_kris_allen _and_life_after_idol
It was the conversation he could only have with us.
"Right after the finale, I almost started talking about it to the reporters, but I thought, 'I'm going to wait for Rolling Stone, that will be cooler,' " Lambert said. His patience paid off with a cover story in our latest issue (check out exclusive video of his cover shoot), and here, in his own words, more from Vanessa Grigoriadis' conversation with Lambert — his true thoughts on his Idol experience, his future in music and why he refuses to hide his sexuality.
On why he auditioned for American Idol:
I looked at the music business, and realized it is nearly impossible to make it with the way it is right now. No one is going to take a chance with an artist who is somewhat out there. The only way you have a chance being looked at by a label right now is if you are what everyone else is. So I realized that I wouldn't be taken seriously as a recording artist unless I had a huge platform. I saw that and I knew that Idol was the only thing that would do it — if it worked.
On Kris Allen and Allison Iraheta:
[Kris Allen] has a good heart and a good spirit. He's so mellow, he's so kick-back. He and I have a lot of love with Allison Iraheta: It felt like this kind of sibling thing. Just good energy, the three of us together. Kris and I both got very protective of her. We encouraged her to pick up the guitar and take risks musically. It always felt very positive ... good karma, you know? Kris doesn't need any advice, clearly. Even though he's really kick-back, he's got a very strong sense of self in a non-aggressive, non-intense way. It's cool.
