Well guess that's the end of the NBA line for Kirk

A former professional basketball player, who helped put the University of Nevada-Reno in the Sweet 16 five years ago, could be shooting hoops in the jail yard for a while.

Kirk Snyder, 25, a former Minnesota Timberwolves player, was arrested early Monday after Warren County sheriff’s officials said he broke into a neighbor’s home in the 5300 block of Commonwealth Drive in Deerfield Township around 3:40 a.m. and attacked the man while he was sleeping.
He is due to appear for arraignment on charges of aggravated burglary and felonious assault 9 a.m. Tuesday in Mason Municipal Court.

A female resident told investigators she was awakened by the sound of glass breaking downstairs.

When she got up to investigate, a tall assailant pushed her aside and ran to the upstairs bedroom where he began to beat her sleeping husband, authorities said.

The woman said she was able to pull the hood off the suspect’s head. The man ran out the same back door he broken in.

A police canine and other information led deputies to Snyder’s nearby residence. He was taken into custody within minutes of the attack.

Snyder was the 16th player taken overall in the 2004 NBA draft and was with several NBA teams before playing the past season with the Chinese Basketball Association’s Zheijiang Horses.

What an idiot! They said he was Bush league and this really proves it.

Article 2006 when Rockets traded for Snyder

What makes this move interesting was the "tiff" that Snyder and Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy had in a game in Utah on March 28, 2005, a 99-85 win by the Rockets.

Snyder made a tough shot and was fouled by Dikembe Mutombo. He then celebrated and wagged his tongue right in front of the Rockets' bench. Van Gundy jumped after him and screamed for a technical -- instead he got the tech. Jazz coach Jerry Sloan benched Snyder as a result (and for that matter, traded him a few months later).

Rocket guard Bobby Sura would have some unkind words for Snyder after the game.

"That's bush-league," said Sura. "You don't do that kind of stuff in the NBA. In our last game, he made a racist comment to one of our players. I'm not a fan."

So it will be interesting to see how the relationship between Snyder and the Rockets that were around then develops. One thing is for sure though - the move is low-risk and fills needs for the Rockets.

Psych evaluation order for ex-NBA player arrested

By Staff report

Tuesday, March 31, 2009

DEERFIELD TWP. — Bond was set at $500,000 and a psychiatric evaluation was ordered Tuesday, March 31, for former NBA player Kirk Snyder, who is accused of breaking in a home and assaulting a Deerfield Twp. man.
Snyder, 25, was arrested early Monday at his residence at 5357 Commonwealth Drive in the Beacon Hill Townhouses. He was charged with aggravated burglary and felonious assault.
Snyder's attorney, Hal Arenstein, entered a not guilty plea during the arraignment in Mason Municipal Court. Snyder was also ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation and was placed under suicide watch.
Mason Prosecutor Robert Peeler said Snyder allegedly attacked another inmate in the Warren County Jail Monday night and "the combined violent outbursts are a cause of concern."
Around 3:40 a.m., a resident at 5387 Commonwealth Drive heard glass breaking downstairs in her townhouse. When she got up to investigate, a tall person pushed her aside and ran to the upstairs bedroom, where he began to assault her sleeping husband, authorities said.
While the man was beating her husband, the woman pulled away a hood covering his head and he then fled out the back door, sheriff deputies said. Peeler said the victim received physical injuries from the alleged assault by Snyder.
The investigation and a canine track led to Snyder's nearby residence, where he was taken into custody within minutes of the offense, sheriff deputies said.
Magistrate Eddie Lawson set a preliminary hearing in Mason Municipal Court for 1 p.m. April 16, during the video arraignment as Snyder sat in the Warren County Jail. Snyder will have to wear a GPS unit if he is release from jail, according to the magistrate's order.
Snyder was the 16th player taken in the 2004 NBA draft and played for several teams — including Utah Jazz, Houston Rockets and Minnesota Timbervolves — before playing this past season in the Chinese professional basketball league.

Kirk Patrick Snyder (born June 5 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/June_5), 1983 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1983) in Los Angeles (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Los_Angeles), California (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California)) is an American (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States) professional basketball (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basketball) player, formerly in the NBA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NBA). The 6'6" and 225 lb (102 kg) swingman (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swingman) is currently playing for Chinese Basketball Association (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_Basketball_Association) side Zhejiang Horses (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zhejiang_Horses).

High school

Having grown up in Upland, California (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Upland,_California), Snyder spent his college career at University of Nevada, Reno (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Nevada,_Reno). In 2004, he led the Wolf Pack to its first Sweet 16 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sweet_16) in the NCAA tournament (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NCAA_Men%27s_Division_I_Basketball_Championship). During that trip, they beat No. 2 seed Gonzaga (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gonzaga_University) and No. 7 seed Michigan State (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michigan_State_University), but lost in the third round to eventual national runner-up and No. 3 Georgia Tech (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georgia_Institute_of_Technology). In 2005, Nevada made it back to the NCAA past the first round by beating Texas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Texas,_Austin), later losing to No. 1 University of Illinois (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Illinois).

Professionals

Snyder was drafted in the first round (16th overall) of the 2004 NBA Draft (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2004_NBA_Draft) by the Utah Jazz (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utah_Jazz). After one season, he was traded to the New Orleans Hornets (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Orleans_Hornets) as part one of the largest trades in NBA history (13 players, 5 teams involved).

In New Orleans, Snyder became a starter midway through his only season (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2005-06_NBA_season). He scored a career-high 28 points against the Minnesota Timberwolves (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minnesota_Timberwolves), and averaged nearly 20 minutes per game in 68 contests. After that, he was traded to the Houston Rockets (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Houston_Rockets) for a 2008 second-round draft (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_NBA_Draft) pick and cash considerations.[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirk_Snyder#cite_note-0)

On February 21, 2008, as he was often the last man from the Rockets' bench, Snyder was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minnesota_Timberwolves) along with a 2010 second-round draft pick and cash considerations for Gerald Green (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerald_Green).[2] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirk_Snyder#cite_note-1)
During the 2008 off-season, Snyder signed with the Chinese Basketball Association (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_Basketball_Association)'s Zhejiang Horses (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zhejiang_Horses).[3] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirk_Snyder#cite_note-2)

Personal

Snyder married his college sweetheart Haley Dahl, and has two children. Haley is the cousin of Atlanta Falcons (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlanta_Falcons) offensive line guard Harvey Dahl (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harvey_Dahl), who also attended Nevada, and played Wolfpack football there. Snyder was arrested on March 30, 2009 after he allegedly broke into a Warren County Ohio home and assaulted a man, sheriff deputies said.

I had high hopes for Snyder when he was for the Hornets in CP3's rookie season. He supplanted JR Smith for the starting SG job and the Hornets went on a big winning streak afterwards. He had a monster dunk over Von Wafer against the Lakers as well. Then he became inconsistent and was later benched. Both him and JR were traded after the season was over. He had alot of potential, but didn't have the mental makeup to be a consistent player.
