Height is just a number. Shawn Bradley and George Muresan were in the same range and they fucking sucked. Yao is the 2nd best center in the league. He doesn't have the athleticism foot work or strength to be as dominant as a guy like Howard but he is what he is, a very good player.

Furthermore talk about nitpicking. If you round up he basically IS a 20 PT, 10 rebound, 2 block player.

Most people that tall have physical problems, whether foot, back, knees, or what not and can't even play sports more than for just recreation. Yao is not only playing basketball professionally, he actually has skill and has worked on that skill. He lacks a lot athletically and agility wise. But to think he's a joke is pretty ridiculous.

Disagree... there were many freaks in the league who were big but never even made a great impact. Yao, despite his lack of lateral movement is a very productive big. He came into the league and was lacking bball skills all over but he worked on it, improved his game, shot selection and even his athletics a bit. Health is his biggest concern right now because it's hard to stay healthy when you play professional sports with such a body. He's doing fine right now and I hope he will in the future because he has shown that he is not only relying on his size and he has shown his will to work on his game too.

I'll admit Yao is soft and timid at times especially when he plays against more athletic players. He also has bad hands and is deaf in one ear. Regardless, I have respect for Yao because he's achieved the level of play he's on by sheer hard work. Any blue collar worker here should be able to respect that.

Correct, there are a plethorea of Yao only fans who are annoying. They are always posting stupid shit and don't look at things from an objective perspective.

Bottom line, Yao is a gimmik. If he gets the ball in a certain spot under specific circumstances he is virtually unguardable.

He is so tall, he is a huge presence on defense despite not being a great defender.

Unfortunatley Yao is officiated horribly, he has stamina issues, and is a huge liability against shooting big men (Okur, Murphy, etc.)

He is a great person, great sense of humor and is easy to root for, so I think you will find most people who generally want him to do well.

If Yao was 6'11 with his skillset he would be a lot quicker, his balance would be a lot better, he would get officiated more fairly, and he would actually be able to jump without breaking his legs. In other words he'd be unstoppable. :king

I think Yao is currently 7 feet from the waist up, 6 inches from the waist down. Mugsy Bogues might have longer legs.
