The feds say (http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=205926,00.html):

"Q4. What is the effective date for all employers to begin using the new tax tables?

A. The IRS asks that employers start using these new tables as soon as possible, but no later than April 1, 2009."

So, it's possible.

I have no idea whether my company has started since the paycheck I got on the 31st is the first one reflecting a US-wide 5% pay cut. :depressed

oh, are you talking about that extra $15 or so per paycheck, if you're bi-monthly, that we're being graced with?
:lmao

I think I've been getting it for the last month or so. I get paid every week, and I've been getting like $20 extra a week

That is almost $800 a year. I'll take that if you don't want it.

It may not equal much, but I'm sure it will make a difference to some struggling folks.

Considering that I owe money this year AND have to pay estimated taxes quarterly, you already did.

It's supposed to be $400 for an individual, $800 for married filing jointly. So if you're *making work pay* at a rate of $800 and so is your spouse, you're going to owe $800 of that back when you file your 2009 taxes. So, that's something that should probably be verified so you don't get any nasty surprises.

Also, some employers started *making work pay* for paydates starting in early March, and since the rates weren't supposed to supposed to really be effective until April 1, those that got extra in March will owe that back. Granted, it's not going to be more than $50-60. I know ADP adjusted their rates for our Company for the March 1st+ payrolls, so I've gotten a little more since my 3/13 paycheck.
