Me and my friends are wanting to go fishing right now, but we don't know of any good places around here. Does anyone know of any good fishing spots, particularly around the 410/Culebra area?

Calaveras lake is probably your best bet this time of year. Gotta drive south from your location to get there. Go in the main entry and go left toward the dam...you will find a grassy shoreline a couple hundred yards down with big groups of cattails kind of on a curve. Stop and fish there. Get some live crawfish at HEB and hook em through the tail and wade out and cast as far as you can...there is some good structure about 50 yards out that holds fish. then just drink beer and wait for a bite. you could get some big redfish and catfish there this time of year. I think the park closes at midnight.

Medina Lake would suck if you didn't have a boat. It's all private property around the lake.

You can go up river, used to be plenty of places to walk the creek.

I assumed he wanted to catch fish. Calaveras kicks ass in the spring for bait soakers from the bank that aren't afraid to wade out to cast...3'-4' redfish aren't that unusual. Trust me dude. Stop at central market and get a pound or two of live crawfish. throw em in an ice chest with a wet towel and they will be fine.

I pulled a monster Corvina from that spot. I'm heading down to Baffin in a week

Unless you have a boat Medina Lake is worthless. Calaveras and Brauning are both packed on the bank. If you rent a boat from Calaveras and head to the crappie wall you can catch some reds with crawfish as Cosmic mentioned. I live near 1604 and Culebra and it's better to take a drive towards Port A and fish the Packery with a lemon rig on the coastal side or free line shrimp in the channel in the evening. Sheep head, trout, reds, and snook available to you that way.

Don't flounder around looking for a spot or you'll have a crappie time! Just have fun, don't let fishing be a pain in the bass! Have a whale of a time!

I used to go fishing once a week at Braunig/Calaveras lake. It was so easy to go fishing there a few years back. Me and a friend would get off of work late and take off to the lake around 10pm and fish until the afternoon the next day.

Now we can't do that because they don't let anyone in after 10pm they close the gates and put the tire spikes. One of the perks of going after 10 back in the day was it was free to get in because no one was there to charge and you just drove in.

I'm guessing it was change because of drunk ass people saying it's boring lets go to the lake at 1am and then the next day it's on the news that some dumb ass is missing in the lake. I would always fish from the bank. Now I'm lucky to go once every few months. My fishing license is just collecting dust.

That's still a good thing to have, otherwise you might just decide you feel like fishing and won't want to buy a license that you won't use regularly. I got a ticket a couple years back and I remember that shit was expensive, I think it was over 200 dollars.

Once I was taking a piss off the side of the boat and the game warden tried to give me a ticket because he thought I was fishing with a surf rod.

When me and my friend would go my brother would go sometimes and he did not have a fishing licence so I told him if he sees a game warden truck drive up he better go to the lake side and start splashing and saying "here fishie fishie fishie" in a slow voice and if the warden gets off, for him to go to the bait bucket and start eating the bait fish and have his note in his pocket.

Reason being,

You do not need this license if you:
are a mentally retarded person and you are recreational fishing under the direct supervision of a licensed fisherman who is a family member or who is a licensed fisherman that has permission from the family to take the mentally retarded person fishing. While fishing, the mentally retarded person needs a note from a doctor stating the person has been diagnosed as mentally retarded.
