Parker merits second-team vote (http://www.mysanantonio.com/sports/spurs/Parker_merits_second-team_vote.html)
Mike Monroe
For every player not named Kobe, LeBron or Dwyane, the greatest postseason honor is inclusion on the All-NBA first team.
For most of them, inclusion on even the second or third team is recognition that validates a career.
I asked Tony Parker if Tim Duncan's recent endorsement of him for consideration for the No. 4 or No. 5 line on voters' most valuable player ballots was meaningful, and the Spurs point guard's response surprised me.
“I just hope it makes some people think maybe they'll vote for me for All-NBA,” Parker said. “That's what I'd like to see.”
Parker knows he has no shot at making All-NBA first team, not when Bryant and Wade have had seasons that have put them in the thick of the MVP race.
If the 120 voters are objective, Parker will make second or third team.
Filling out my official ballot for first-team All-NBA is a no-brainer:
Kobe Bryant, reigning MVP, and Wade, who is going to win the league's scoring title, are obvious guard choices for voters in every NBA city but New Orleans. Be assured Chris Paul will get at least one first-team vote from the Big Easy.
Orlando's Dwight Howard, about to become just the fifth player to lead the league in both rebounds and blocked shots, is an overwhelming choice as first-team center.
LeBron James ought to be a unanimous choice for one of the forward positions on the first team.
The other forward spot requires more thought, but I believe Tim Duncan deserves to return to the first team after sliding to second team last season. He gets my first-team vote. Kevin Garnett joined James on the first team last season. The knee injury that will limit him to 57 games disqualifies him this time. Duncan has played with aching knees and still averages nearly 20 points and 11 rebounds.
The second team is tougher, but no coin flips are required, and it is clear that Parker merits a spot on the second unit. So does Paul.
A resurgent Shaquille O'Neal gets my vote as second-team center. The forwards are Dirk Nowitzki and Paul Pierce.
The problem when you get to third team is knowing you have to leave off deserving players. Brandon Roy and Chauncey Billups are on my ballot as guards, so I must omit Ray Allen, Steve Nash and Mo Williams. My forwards are Pau Gasol and LaMarcus Aldridge, which means Kevin Durant must wait until the Thunder get more competitive, and Chris Bosh needs to get out of Toronto. Yao Ming is my third-team center, an easy choice.

Totally agree with Parker being in the 2nd-Team. He's the main reason why SA will get the second best record in the WC. I even think he has had a better season than both CP3 and D Williams.

I think Paul and Roy are more deserving of 2nd team and they'll probably get it. Parker will end up in 3rd All NBA team, still not bad.

Parker and Paul really isn't that close..I hate the guy almost as much as I hate Kobe, but it's difficult to ignore how great he is..the difference with Paul is that he affects the game in the small aspects of basketball..
his flopping..he'll stop his dribble so the defensive player runs into him and picks up a foul..he plays relatively solid D, and his ability to get steals is elite..he gets in for loose balls, he's a gritty player..the last play where he drew 3 fouls on Manu was a great example of how smart of a player he is..
as for the all-NBA teams..it'll be interesting to see what they do for the F position..if they go the traditional route, Duncan will be the F, and one of the Kobe/Wade/Paul will have to be on the 2nd team..otherwise, they could put Kobe as G/F, and have the 3 of them on the 1st team with Lebron and Howard..
so it'll either be..
G Bryant
G Wade
F James
F Duncan
C Howard
or
G Paul
G Wade
G/F Bryant
F James
C Howard
Tony's competition could be Paul if the 1st scenario happens..so Paul would be a lock..the other guards in competition would be Brandon Roy, Deron Williams, Chauncey Billups..
so I would put Roy on the 2nd team over Tony..
he'll probably be on the 3rd team..

One reason why CP3 > TP is that CP3 is a great flopper and TP is a horrible flopper.

it's amazing to me that Parker doesn't get more foul calls when he goes in among all the big trees night after night. Is he some kind of ghost that they can't see or hit?

No. The reason I said that is because haven't other people been banned before for inciting arguments against Tony and Manu?
Why do you always get a free pass? I reckon if I said the stuff you do all the time I would have been banned. Why can you get away with it all the time?

No one has been banned for JUST inciting Tony/Manu arguments. People who got banned and stayed banned have done a lot more than that.
Anyway, ducks has been warned plenty of times for his hating of Manu, but just like some of the Parker haters, he just can't stop. It's lame. I suggest you just put him on your ignore list.
But in this thread he's not hating on anyone but CP3 .. I don't know if that's ban-worthy. :lol

Fair enough. I thought you've banned people before for constant Tony/Manu bashing. So for someone who does it almost every opportunity he gets I thought for some reason he was getting a free pass.

I think the problem of awards is that a lot of writers don't really understand basketball, so they look at the stats, because it's easier and, you know, stats don't lie.
The problem with that in SA is that it's a team-first attitude which is very good for team records and championships, but not for the individual player to shine. Even Duncan would have had better numbers (and probably a shorter career) with another team, because they would have ridden him for 40+ minutes a game.
So that's not good for Parker personal dreams because he's being played 34 minutes or so, and sometimes asked to step back, not be that aggressive, etc. Basically Pop doesn't ask of him to have a 30-10 line every day - that would be great for Parker but not for the team.
In the end Wade will make first team and will be a strong contender for MVP, but I for one would not make a straight up trade between the two because I don't think Wade would fit in the system - to me he's just "another Iverson" who lucked on Shaq to win a ring (where AI had nobody else) - they shine when they take all the shots, but if you ask them to do anything else (see AI recent stint off the bench in Detroit) then there's nobody there - either they are in the spotlight or they might as well not be on the court. Freaks of nature, yes. Great basketball players? I have my reservations.
All this being said, TP certainly deserves to be 2nd-team this year. And first team along Kobe would actually be far from stupid.

Tony Longoria deserves a place in the squad of the 2nd team at least.
