Euroleague Basketball reinforces regulations

Barcelona, 4 April 2009.

An independent judge has ruled in disciplinary proceedings against four of Euroleague Basketball clubs that have participated in the Quarterfinal Playoffs. All proceedings were brought about due to infringement of the competition by-laws, including incidents generated by the public such as lighting flares inside the arena, the use of laser pointers and throwing objects on the playing area. This week, the Euroleague independent disciplinary judge fined the following teams: Panathinaikos of Greece (a total of 14,500 €), Montepaschi Siena of Italy (3,500 €), Olympiacos of Greece (5,000€ and a warning), and Partizan of Serbia (5,000€). These fines are in accordance with the severity of the incidents.

These rulings reiterate Euroleague Basketball's insistence on the need to follow the regulations established in the by-laws of the competition. Euroleague Basketball will continue to pursue such proceedings and will give its full support to any officiating member or referee who opts to postpone or stop a game if the regulations are not being followed by a club.
