SAN ANTONIO (AP) -- Robert Horry is warming up for the postseason.

Horry scored 18 points in 21 minutes, making four of his five 3-point attempts, to help the San Antonio Spurs to an 89-73 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night.

For Horry, signed by the Spurs for his perimeter scoring, the production was his highest in nearly two seasons with the team.

"Right now I think everyone is trying to get in a rhythm," said Horry, averaging 5.0 points per game and shooting 34 percent from behind the arc. "I felt pretty good tonight and wanted to keep shooting it."

Tim Duncan, who scored 25 points and had 14 rebounds and five blocks, said Horry is just starting to get serious.

"Rob just messes around the entire season until he's ready to play -- that's his m.o.," Duncan said with a smirk. "He felt tonight was a playoff-type game and he said, 'Hey, I'll play. Let me play."

The Spurs, playing a fourth straight game without swingman Manu Ginobili, made 12 of their first 15 shots to quickly open a double-digit lead they maintained for most of the game.

"In the first three or four minutes we got down six points, then all of a sudden (we were) down 15 or 16," Minnesota coach Kevin McHale said.

San Antonio shot 70 percent in the first quarter and 35 percent after that, but the Timberwolves managed only 39 percent for the game. The Spurs made half of their 14 3-pointers and committed only eight turnovers, compared to 20 turnovers for Minnesota.

Tony Parker and Brent Barry each had 11 points for San Antonio, which led by as many as 19 points in the second half. Duncan finished with 14 rebounds.

Latrell Sprewell scored 21 points for Minnesota, 17 of them in the second half, and Wally Szczerbiak had 20. Kevin Garnett finished with 12 points on 5-for-15 shooting to go with 11 rebounds.

The loss dropped the Timberwolves to 33-33 this season and 8-7 under McHale.

"This game shows us on the radar just where we are right now," said Garnett, whose team came into San Antonio trailing Denver by a half-game for the final playoff slot in the Western Conference.

The Spurs made 14 of their 20 shots in the first quarter. Duncan made four of his five attempts and gathered in seven rebounds for San Antonio, whose advantage grew to 16 points in the quarter's final minute on Horry's first 3-pointer.

Minnesota trimmed the Spurs' lead to 38-33 with 5:08 left in the second on a 15-foot corner jumper by Szczerbiak.

But Horry came back with his third 3-pointer on the next possession, and Duncan followed with a pair of free throws and a layup to restore the lead to 45-33 as San Antonio ended the half with a 13-6 run.

It's so true, Robert is completely known for sleeping through the regular season and stepping it up a notch when it counts. :lol

If Robert could bring in the playoffs what he brought tonight,

name me a team that beats the Spurs, witha healthy DUncan, Parker, Ginobili and the rest of the players playing the way they are.

Pops' plan:
Acc to Express News:
When the Spurs traded Malik Rose to New York last month, Popovich said he hoped the move would create a more consistent role for Horry.

The thing that amazes me the most about Horry play tonight, is the fact that he has a fractured bone!!!

I dont care if its a "non weight baring bone" or whatever its called. Its still a fracture!!!
Incredible. He was just feeling it tonight.

I'll admit that I was one of the guys that was pegging Horry as a "Double Agent" last year. Eventually I came to agree with the idea that he was just way past his prime and he had no malevalent intentions. This season (at this point) only proves this thing to me. Horry probably has too much personal pride (especially in his "Post-Season Assassin" skills to tarnish them over a couple of last season or early post-season games). Horry simply brings it when he has it, and tries to contribute the hustle points when he doesn't. Good job by Horry and I'd like to see this type of contribution late into the postseason.

Im a big (not misti big, but big) fan of what Horry brings to the table.

I seriously believe he is one of the best players playing for the vet minimum, when he rebounding he is a great backup PF. The fact that he is a known playoff performer is just a bonus.
