we went to Zios yesterday for lunch. There were 6 of us. The guy was real cool and took care of everything very quickly. He said we were real fun and he said he went ahead and comped all of our teas and cokes which was about $10 worth.

The total came out to $43 with the tax. Since he was cool and comped the drinks, how much is a good amount to tip?

I would have left $10., but that's just me. :)

20% + 1/2 of what was comped.

minimum that should have been dropped is $60.

yeah, that sounds like a good formula.

I dropped $15, thinking I was helping cover the drinks he comped.......which basically means instead of giving the restaurant the money for the drinks, I was giving most of that money to the waiter (or whoever splits the tips with him).

it's so freakin rare to get such good service like that, that I wasn't really thinking.

eh. oh well.

I may be cheap but I do tip good for good service. Went to Chili's on Saturday and our waitress was awesome. Gave her $10 tip on a $30 tab.

at least tip the price of the drinks and double the tax

I haven't been to Zio's in a long time. The last time I was there we had shitty service. :rolleyes:rollin

so basically pay as if he had not given us free drinks + give roughly 15-17% tip.

we hadn't been in a long time either. If you like spaghetti w meatball and chicken alfredo, they have a good deal:

1 huge family size bowl of spag, 1 huge f size bowl of chk alf and 4 salads for $19.99. I finished off the chk alf for lunch today.

I love Zios- they have a meal that serves my son and me, and we even take some home. You get lasagna, chicken parm, and spaghetti all for $11.00. Add one salad for $2 and we both eat for $15 with tax. I always tip $10 since we both ate.

When I go to breakfast...Generally by myself…If the waitress talks to me & pretends that I am interesting… I tip 25%...I could care less if the food is good….

Good formula.

I probably would have gone with $15.

I'd cover the cost of drinks and then also 18-20% of the tab.

dont recall.

Based on past waiters at almost any restaurant, I wouldn't expect him to be there but for another few weeks any way.

I can't think of the last time I've seen the same waiter on the next visit.

I hate tipping. I just do 20 percent across the board. Only a few times in my life I gave much less because of poor service.
