Way to generalize.
Smith was amazing once again, but I have to think that somebody who brings in their five-year-old kid to watch them get beat up has a streak of cruelty.
I had to laugh out loud when somebody (I think it was Gus) made the statement that most of Diaz's shots were "pitter-patter". Go ahead and walk up to Nick Diaz and say that to his face and he'll pitter-patter the hell out of your nose.

to be fair I have yet to hear another reason why a women has come in heavy. Thats the only excuse I have ever heard and all by women. I think it has been used 3 times now in the past year and a half or so.
7bs was without a question an act of cheating knowing she could get away with it and she used "the women problem" as an excuse.

Oh, I agree. Cyborg definitely cheated, but that can't be the only excuse. Let's see... Gina has failed to make weight, what, three times? I know she used that excuse at least once, but what were her excuses the other two?
but what were her excuses the other two?
she only used it once when she was way over....cyborg just used it when she was way over...and someone else used it when they were 4 lbs or so over last summer and I am drawing a blank who but I know it was a shoxc card.
the other two time Gina didn't use an excuse if I remember right.
I'm just saying it seems to be excuse when someone blows it. People are highly unforgiving when you screw up weight that bad.

Too bad they can't impose a weight limit for using that excuse :lol
Say, three pounds. It's very easy for a woman to gain that much in water weight during certain times (and very hard to lose; it doesn't just sweat out like regular water). But anything over that... nope. Not buying it.
when was gina shown?
About four times before the Cyborg fight and once or twice after.
Strikeforce needs her bad...I hope they sign her and Kim "Yoko" Couture is her manager now so they better pay up.

sounds fine to me
yeah and look I am obviously talking about something I know next to nothing about....I'm just saying...its just been used a bit much when someone blows weight big time.
I want womens mma to work and if a doctor says its a legit reason why the fighter is over weight by 3-4-5 lbs....go for it...make it a rule. I just don't want it to be a bogus excuse and I worry that is has already kinda become one.
I wonder how this all works out in female boxing.....

and I am assuming Kim is her manager now because she was complaining Gina had a bad contract with EXC (which I agree with btw) and she was saying things like "we need to sitdown and rework it" and "we need a contract thats currently fair"
Gina is worth it...she really needs training on being a better speaker tho. She is terrible on camera and if she could charm with words instead of just being pretty along with her talent she would RAKE in money. Its an extreme example but think how much money Tito has made with his mouth and think how much more Chuck could have made were he not such a simpleton neanderthal.
countless athletes take media lessons and her management would do well to force her to take them for her own good. GSP is doing it with that new marketing firm he is with...why not Gina?

poor Gina already had to deal with that towel fiasco....why Skala or her dad didn't push for it to happen in privacy is beyond me.
UFC Fighters do their weigh-ins in closed doors before they go on that stage so why couldn't Gina have done so?

Didn't know that about the UFC. How is it that Dean Lister had to get naked on stage during his last weigh-in?
To answer your first question: When you have a money-making machine like Gina Carano, you're not going to protect their privacy. You're going to take all you can get from them before the novelty runs out.
Didn't know that about the UFC. How is it that Dean Lister had to get naked on stage during his last weigh-in?
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm good point.
Maybe they just do it in states they can get away with it? Because sometimes I watch weigh ins where a fighter flunks out and you never see actually happen at least I haven't but I only catch half of them. Maybe it only happens when they aren't in Nevada or California.
and to put a wrap on whether or not her period is a legit excuse....

Interesting tidbit from the post fight conference
--Tito Ortiz made it very clear he wants to fight for Strikeforce. He is waiting for the UFC's first right of refusal to expire (which it does in May), and then he would ideally return in the fall. He has just started weight training again, and trash talked Babalu a bit. He admitted he was depressed Frank lost because it was "money out the window."
He has said he wants to fight in the summer many many times. So that tells me that something might be wrong with his rehab?

GracieFighter also had another update on their site that should calm some of the outrage caused by yesterday's official Strikeforce payouts post:
Since figures were released by the CSAC on fighters pay from the Strikeforce event, we have received several inquiries and comments on Nick's pay. We would like to let Nick's fans know that his compensation for the event was actually substantially larger than the amount listed, due to the way his contract was structured. Nick Diaz and Strikeforce have in place a fair compensation agreement.

Frank is way way way way overpaid..
Hard to tell because on one hand part of his pay was for interviews hyping up the fight.
However on the other hand you're right because I sure don't see what the attraction is to his career anymore. I got into MMA because of TUF 1 and I have yet to see Shamrock do a damn thing that showcases any sort of set of high level skills. I have seen the guy fight 5 times since I became a fan and nothing has impressed me so far. That fight with Baroni was a tragedy.
Obviously he was greatness back in the day but obviously the game has passed him by but he is very solid doing play by play.
But I would like to go on record saying I would still love to see him fight Tito before the curtain call.:ihit
From Josh Barnett's myspace post:
With the menstrual cycle excuse firmly in hand and an unwillingness to do any more than bare minimum, Chris Cyborg stepped on that scale Friday with no intention of making weight I assume. I heard blame on a scale at a gym they used, the period (as explained to me by saying, "Blood" in a Portuguese accent and making a whooshing effect with his hands from the crotch area.), and the fact that Gremlins didn't enter the picture is surprising.
It would be one thing if Hitomi had cut too but this issue is compounded by the fact that she gained weight to make this fight already, accepting she would be out sized....but accepting it from a weight of 146, not 150lbs. By the time any deals were made, Cyborg hit a scale at 1 am and was 158lbs. This was post pizza, which we saw her eat after just making weight enough to close the gap in weight difference which the commission needed just to even allow a fight to happen. She had until 8pm to cut. She could have worked to insure a bout by trying to make 146 as was agreed. But she did just enough and hoped we would accept the fight. They wouldn't reject a fight this big and on TV of things...of course not!

Sure, i mean during the heyday of this guy's career MMA was in the dark ages. Almost Nobody saw his reign and even less remembered it 5 minutes after it ended. Around TUF 1 is where MMA really started to take off, that is many years post Frank Shamrock. So when he came back, i don't believe many new fans of the sport, had ever heard of the guy. And it's not like he jumped back on the scene and beatdown some of the popular new breed fighters of today.. It's puzzling to me that he has a contract that elite, it really is..

Kim Couture on the Cyborg issue at 1:40. Good for her, she also called out Gina on using the excuse.
