The west has changed. It used to be the Spurs, Dallas, and Suns on top, now it's the Lakers, then a little ways down the blazers and NO, maybe Denver.

i think that Dallas, under the right circumstances, could make it to the WCF.

What circumstances? Everyone quits but the Mavs?

we get the 6th seed, play Houston or SA

then get Denver or Utah in the 2nd, we would need to have home court advantage vs Utah

im not saying it will happen but i think we could surprise some people. look how we're playing right now

I agree to a certain extent. You (or maybe others saying "sweep") were implying it would be easy. The West is wide open, the Mavs are playing pretty well as of late and they have a decent chance.

But as things stand right now, you are the 8th seed and it does not look great. Sure, anything can happen, but is it likely?

Dallas can't and won't beat Houston in a 7-game series. I think the only teams we could beat are Portland, San Antonio and Utah (would need HCA).

You really think Houston is that good?

I wouldn't say we're expected to beat them (I think we'd lose in 6) but I think we "could" beat them, much like we "could" beat the other 3 teams you mentioned.

We're an inconsistent team though :lol. how we're playing "right now", as in the past 1.75 games really doesn't mean much. We've had good stretches of games all year and then stretches where we look bad. Jekyll and Hyde all year.

Houston is better than Dallas. Josh Howard really helps us out, because they just have too much defense (Battier, Artest, Hayes) to throw at us when only Dirk and Jet can create their shot.

No. if we stay as the 8th seed its over for us.

but the way we are playing now i think we will move up to atleast the 7th seed and then nothing would be surprising as far as us upsetting higher seeds.

1. Denver (not likely we beat them)
2. Houston (i think we could if Dirk gets hot)
3. Portland (yes we matchup well
4. SA (with Ginobili out yes)
5, New Orleans (no, but i dont see how we'd play them anyway)
6. Utah (yes, with HCA)

How times have changed! :toast

I agree with your points, I just feel that anytime you have the best player on the court you at least have a shot.

Mark Jackson just said exactly what i did so im not just a blind homer.

he said

"if they keep playing like this they can beat anybody else in West"

obviously excluding LA

Mavfans should know by now to keep their expectations of this cocktease of a team very low. Have the past few seasons taught you nothing.

That is like me saying, if the Spurs creep back up to the 2nd seed, they can make it to the WCF.

Yeah with Manu out thats obvious they won't do that. They are not playing very well and Tim is banged up too, they are ripe for the picking right now. I doubt they meet Dallas in round one nor at all this year, but if they met now I would have to say Dallas has a good shot at beating them with all the shyt going on. If Manu were healthy and Tim were 90% right now I would say SA, but they are not.

Mehh, my eye balls (and the standings) tell me that while all these trash West teams (everyone except Lakers) are slightly better than us, they are better than us. better margin of victory, better record against +.500 teams for all of them.

It doesn't really matter how a team plays heading into the playoffs, the body of work usually is a more telling story. New Orleans went 3-4 in the final 7 last year blowing a #1 seed, losing the final game to us, and still beat us in 5.

But the better team usually wins a 7 game series, so being "slightly" better is all it takes. We would need Dirk/JET to shoot like it was 2006-2007 to have a shot, along with J-Ho playing like a borderline All Star. very little margin for error.
