You so called wannabe fans that have the nerve to give up on the Spurs when the playoffs haven't even started? don't deserve to still be here at ST in my book.

But if your that addicted to coming here everyday can you do me and everyone else who hasn't given up on the Spurs a favor and post all your silly hateful venom talk you have built up in this topic so the rest of us who haven't given up on the Spurs can enjoy the forums, is that to much to ask?

I take offense to somebody calling me a wannabe fan because I'm a realist about the team's chances..

I love this team..I take the time to post on a Spurs message board..I discuss ways to make the team better with my fellow Spurs fans..

just because I don't think we're going to win a title, it doesn't mean I'm not going to watch the games and cheer for the Spurs..sorry that it's difficult to believe a team can win when the best player on the team can't walk, and the 3rd best is out for the year..

There is a difference in saying Spurs don't look like they have a chance and flat out saying its over.

You can talk all the negative you want that is what this topic is for. but seriously how do you think you look always bitching and complaining after 4 rings?

What if it was your son or daughter who was going to play in the playoffs in soccer and you know he or she doesn't stand a chance are you going to remind them of it every day?

Show some class constructive criticism and bailing on your team when they need you most as they enter the playoffs minus Manu are two different actions. You must know the difference.

There's a difference between giving up on the season and giving up on the team.

Take me as a Piston fan for example. I know my team isn't doing shit in the playoffs this year (if they do in fact make it). I have accepted that. I gave up on the season in the sense that I know it's pretty much futile to expect anything. And, I have made disparaging remarks about the team, the coach, and Dumars. But, I haven't stopped watching or rooting for the Pistons. I've given up on the season, not the team.

There's a difference.

Supergirl21, you are lumping a lot of people into a single category.
It's a little more complicated than that. It involves nuance and not a broad brush.

If you want, you will find many takers if you place a real bet (not with Spurstalk money) on whether or not the Spurs will win the WCF. Put your money where your mouth is. Or you know the truth and just refuse to be part of the reality based community here. And don't give me some excuse that you don't bet or whatever.

Tim went a month where he shot a little better than 40 % and did not score 20 points in a single game. He scored 6 points against the Cavs when he was rested. Tonight he scored 4 points on 2 for 8 shooting with 5 rebounds.
Manu Ginobili is out for the rest of the season.

The simple truth is that we have no shot, zero, nada, nil, of winning the WCF and not a very good chance of winning any series in the playoffs at all. The Thunder beat us twice in our gym. We have no defense. We have no Tim Duncan. We have no Manu Ginobili.

Many of us still love the Spurs and are still cheering for the Spurs. We want the Spurs to win. But we are part of the reality based community and know that this year, the Spurs have no shot at all of winning the WCF. Our season is over.

I don't blame Manu and many others who believe that our season is basically over don't blame Manu or want to trade him.

I don't post vile things or hateful things about Manu or the team.

I do think that Pop has coached poorly late in the season. And I am not afraid to criticize some of his choices, given the results. And I am not going to be Pollyanna ish and say something that all of us who are realists know is false: the Spurs have a chance to make some noise in the playoffs.

Had you been more subtle or simply directed this at people who were demanding that Manu be traded or something along those lines, then I could agree with your thread. But when you include people whose only crime is to criticize Pop for some very questionable rotations and who acknowledge the plain, simple, unvarnished fact that we have virtually no shot at winning the WCF and are without any basis to be confident of winning even a single round, then you have shot blindly with a shotgun. And missed your target completely.

Your thread fails.

You, me, Jamstone, and Ruff all obviously share the same idea: We still love our Spurs and will cheer for them until the season is actually over, but we know that this isn't our year. And unless I'm mistaken, Timvp has the same take. It may even be the majority, mainstream view here. All honest basketball fans know where the Spurs find themselves this year, no matter how much they love the Spurs.

It's going to take more than rose-colored glasses to keep the Spurs from getting beat down this year.

A realistic take on the situation does not make you a fairweather fan. Opposing viewpoints shouldn't be excluded from the discussion simply because you don't feel like sifting through them.

One could say the same about your "head-in-the-clouds" take. I'm just as tired of seeing your opinion on the matter.

That's right. The commonly-quoted mantra that things like talent, health, teamwork, chemistry, commitment to defense, etc. win championships is totally fallacious. What it really takes is really, really intense fan hope. That, and reacting violently against people who doubt. Remember, if you let any doubts go unchallenged, and the Spurs lose, it is personally your fault. Your lack of vigilance to date is in fact the reason for the injuries to Duncan and Ginobili.

You need to step it up a notch before things get worse. Name-calling might not be enough. Try threatening people.

I agree with Ruff and with Mavs<Spurs and others who said you're not 'less of a fan' for being a realist.

And I don't think Tim Duncan is crying into his pillow because some fans don't think they're gonna make it this year without Ginobili and with him at only 60%. I hope they make it, but there's nothing wrong with saying I don't think it's very likely this year.

I'm curious, if (heaven forbid) Duncan, Parker, Mason, and Gooden all had problems that kept them out of the postseason, would you condemn anyone who dared suggest that a starting lineup of Vaughn, Hill, Udoka, Bonner and Oberto probably wasn't going to get us our 5th trophy? When is it acceptable to be realistic?
