Offense may be back in the NBA this season with seven teams averaging 100 or more points a game, but defense will be on display Sunday when the San Antonio Spurs and Detroit Pistons meet.
The Spurs hold opponents to a league-low 86.7 points a game and limit them to a league-low 42.2% shooting. The Pistons are second in fewest points allowed (89.2) and fifth in opponent's field goal percentage (42.9).
Tim Duncan inside and Bruce Bowen on the perimeter are a formidable defensive duo for the Spurs, and Ben Wallace inside and Tayshaun Prince outside usually control the game at the defensive end for the Pistons.
Prince also is having a big offensive year. He has averaged 20.4 points, six rebounds and four assists in the last five games, four of them wins.
"He has arrived," said Pistons teammate Lindsey Hunter. "What more can you say? For like the last two months, he's been playing the best basketball of anybody in the NBA."(USAtoday)
Tim Duncan & Ben Wallace are this year's candidates for Defensive Player of the year. Who will prevail? in rbds & blocks?:rolleyes
Best Matchup?
Manu vs. Rip/Prince?
Billups vs. TP?
TD vs. Big Ben?
