View Full Version : How Often Do You Erase Something Here?

Obviously the whole point of this place is that you can pretty much say whatever the hell you want, but there are still times when I've typed a reply and just realize it's not worth it and exit the thread. Either it's not adding anything worthwhile to the conversation at hand, or I figure someone's just looking for attention, or I know it could set off a needless shit storm that I don't have the time or desire to slog through.

Hell, even now I'm wondering how long it will take before this turns into a "I wish X person would erase everything before they post it" thread.

I know it happens about once a day with me. I'm just wondering how often the rest of you guys do that. Are there any topics you can remember causing that?

Pretty much on every religion related thread.

I know this would come as a shock to most of you but hit the old red button 20-30 times a day here.

I start to reply to a thread and then opt out right before posting it on average about twice per day.

Wow, that is kind of a shock. Hard to picture B2B holding anything back.

it happend to me a lot in the initial UTSA hate thread that got shut down and removed (damn shame), but on a day to day basis it might happen once or twice.

and to be honest with you some of the shit that happens in my life is too unbelievable. I could come in with story after story and it'd inevitably be met with the :rolleyes or typical King comment about how I'm lying or just adding a little B2B spice after the fact.

:lmao

I used to think about what others may think about me and want to use one of my other 2 or 3 usernames but then I decided to hell with it. I'll just lay it on the line and so be it.
But yes, I have typed a response and then have decided it was badly written or maybe inappropriate.

A one or two line response? Never.

Something over a paragraph? Quite a bit.

Since when has that stopped you? :lmao I too could post some incredible stories but they will come back to haunt me in the religious threads as my prior fornicating has come back to bite me in the ass. I've got some that would make yours look readers digest.

usually every day this happens to me. Sometimes when it is very long winded and heartfelt, but after proofing, comes off the wrong way. Sometimes when it just doesn't seem appropriate in the context.

If I'm on here all day making maybe 20+ posts, I'll get cold feet at least once or twice. Not always because I'm holding back from some extreme opinion. Usually I look at what I wrote and it's just shitty, either mechanically or in its inanity, so I re-write it or don't post it.

That's how it usually happens with me. I'll end up at a point where I realize that I've either gotten worked up and have written a rambling response, or that the point I'm trying to make is something where my attempts to be more precise and clear will just give someone more lines to try to read between rather than doing any good at all.

Its not about what others may think of me, its just that its generally about two groups that argue extreme opposites by accusing the other group of behaving towards the subject exactly the way themselves do.

how about actually making the post, then quickly deleting it? does that count the same?

DarkReign
04-10-2009, 03:35 PM
I actually make it a habit to post long, inane, rambling posts that start on one subject and end with me being even more misanthropic than I started.

This place is therapy for me, not you.

I have deleted an entire post though. Not so much because I care what others think of my writing style or compostition, but more because I dont want someone or some people to know they piss me off.

A lot actually. I type out maybe 10 responses a day and then erase them because I'm just like "Fuck it, I don't feel like taking the time to disagree with someone" or "This is worthless information".

Sometimes I jump the gun and write a really bitchy response to something stupid. Then I think, "maybe they're genuinely ignorant and not trying to be a jackass; or maybe I shouldn't stoop to his level just because I'm butt-hurt; or maybe I shouldn't get into this debate that's going to end up being 12 pages of people being mean to each other..." On average about once a day, I'd say.

Ditto.

I can only think of a couple times I've decided against a short reply, and in all cases it was because I realized while typing that my joke wasn't very funny.

Far less often than not posting something I've written, I'll occasionally make a post, immediately regret it, delete it and then pray like hell that nobody read or quoted it in the 20 seconds it existed.

The worst is when you post something ass ignorant and go back and edit it almost immediately, but in the meantime someones quoted you and pointed out what a dumbass you are. And you're just sitting there with an edited post, looking like a fool and wishing you'd never discovered teh internet message boards in the first place.

Rarely. I have no interest in questioning people's opinions and thoughts about a great number of things. Also I tend to hold back quite a bit, mostly because one can never be sure who is genuine and who isn't. I mean I'll discuss anything with someone who is sincere in their beliefs, but I won't waste my time when there's a big possibility they may just be trying to evoke a response or "stir the pot". So for the most part, I keep my posts as light and playful as possible and rarely feel a need to erase anything.

I just caught myself doing it 6 different times in the Spurs forum. :lol

The only time I post and think it is irrelevant or ignorant is something to do the Spurs and being pissed at a loss or something. I would have like 10 posts everyday for that alone, but do not. Usually just sit there and groan, backspace everything and exit. Other than that I don't give a shit really.

I've come to examine how people post and go from there when it's not Spurs related, and rarely feel like editing my post or anything of the sort.

For instance like right now. I wonder how many of you have felt like editing your post or something in this thread. I'd bet 3-5.

I very rarely stop a post after I've started it. But I do have a nasty habit of Posting a reply without proof reading, or I'll think of something to add right after, so I end up going back and editing just about every other post. :lol

It happened on this one.

I back track countless times, my post count would probaly be double or triple. I'm too honest in real life, I'm just straight forward. My wife is always telling me to watch what I say. I don't see it as being rude, just the way i would want to answered....truthfully.

Yep, I start to type something and realize that I either don't care enough about the topic or just don't have anything worth saying that will add to it at least once or twice per visit.

Considering my post count, I'd say I probably do it far too rarely.
