Good decision. Try to win tonight without him and then play him tomorrow against the better Warriors.

I agree, good decision.

Duncan will sit vs. Kings (http://blogs.mysanantonio.com/weblogs/courtside/2009/04/duncan-will-sit.html)
By Jeff McDonald

Playing the matchup odds, Spurs coach Gregg Popovich has opted to rest Tim Duncan during tonight's game against Sacramento.

It is the first night of a back-to-back that will take the Spurs to Golden State on Monday, and Popovich planned to sit Duncan in one of the two games. Sacramento made sense from a matchup standpoint.

"In the past, he's been a difference-maker against Golden State, so we're going to opt to use him in that game," Popovich said in his pre-game meeting with the media. "We're not going to play him in both. It's just not good for him."

Duncan has been struggling with soreness in his knees for more than a month, but in recent days had said the pain is showing signs of fading. He said he could have played against the Kings, but understood why Popovich wants to play it safe.

"They don't want me to play back-to-backs this late in the season," Duncan said. "We're just trying to be smart about it and do things the right way."

Spurs need win tonight ? I mean, will they fight for that without Tim, or just let the game roll over ?

Spurs need win tonight ? Yes, desperately. A loss tonight goes a long way toward ensuring the Spurs don't get home-court advantage.

So good one. Kick theirs asses.

I`m still worried about jump shooting. On road that simply suck.

And of course, does Pop know that ? :toast

Without Tim what is the chance to win this game ?

well, assuming we probably won't catch denver for the 2nd spot (which means no HCA in 2nd round):

we're talking about fighting for the HCA in the first round, where it will need a seventh game for this HCA to be useful. The odds to have a 7th game in this first serie is about 25 %.

does it worth battling to have this ?

i say rest TP tomorrow against GSW and do whatever we need to be ready for the PO.

Good decision.

Hopefully Pop lets Georgie play some against Beno. I wanna see that matchup.:hat

Also, we'll get to see Gooden in a bigger role tonight as our main post presence.

If they lose, they made 25% chances in lottery :D

A good thing is to celebrate it at home

Still good. Kings sucks. Give TP the ball and let him run the show

One thing I always notice against GS: we own their asses when Tim's on the floor, but they come back FURIOUSLY when he sits. I think we had a huge chance to lose that game tomorrow if Tim either sat or played stressed and tired. Nellie can ALWAYS be counted on to pull out a few tricks from his bag.

Good call on sitting Tim tonight.

yes if TP has at least a normal game at 30 10 but if it's just below average game at 20 and 6 it will be tough !

love to write normal game at 30 an 10

Now that we have Gooden, we have a better chance with Duncan out.

Good thing he will be getting some rest. Kurt will get the start in replace for Duncan.

predictable move here, I called for it weeks ago..we SHOULD win against Sacramento without TD..

Kurt has been very good in the starting lineup this season, so hopefully that trend continues..

In retrospect... It's also what should have been done for the OKC/Portland Back-to-Back set... (too bad the Spurs let the Thunder get in their heads warranting Duncan's decision to play for retributive purposes, instead of resting and handing the Blazers the loss)...

Spurs don't need TD to beat the worst team in the NBA.

Exactly. Houston and Portland are not going to be caught by the Spurs even if the Spurs go 3-0. And even the #3 seed is on the road for Round 2.

So why put up a big injury risk when we aren't winning squat with an unrested Duncan and Parker anyways? Beat the Kings, more or less secure #4 and rest.

Here's hoping Pop won't get owned by Sactowns interim coach. :toast

"We're just trying to be smart about it and do things the right way."

I'm mystified by this approach. The only reason the Spurs won't fall to the 8 seed is because there isn't enough time left.

What I meant to say is, "Great work Pop!":flag:
