The NBA is looking into Portland's decision to play a video of Trevor Ariza's flagrant foul on Rudy Fernandez on the scoreboard prior to Friday night's game between the two teams.

The foul took place in a game involving the two teams a few weeks ago.

League spokesman Tim Frank said Saturday that teams are not permitted to show replays involving flagrant fouls from previous games.

"We will be looking into the matter," Frank said.

The Blazers defeated the Lakers 106-98, and could be fined by the league.

"That's something that NBA clubs are not supposed to do, show video before a game that incites crowds," Lakers coach Phil Jackson said. "Portland took a big risk doing that, and that's a finable thing from the league. That's something that they try to prevent in the spirit of good sportsmanship, but Portland has been like that.

They've created that situation, and I think Trevor was affected by it, unfortunately. I don't think he had the kind of game I like to see him have."

I personally couldn't care less about this kind of shit, but what a worthless franchise POR is from top to bottom.

The league does it every playoffs season. Last season they showed the clothesline that Mchale put on Rambis. So whats the big deal.

How many times did we see the clothesline that Raja put on Kobe when those two teams met.

+1, some of these laker kids are really whiny and annoying.

Phil's just messing with Portland as he always does.

Lakers lost but Phil still wins. You can bet that the Blazers rushed to remove that clip from their pre-game and will be careful not to do anything like that during the Playoffs.

As a fan, I don't really care if the home crowd uses tactics like this to energize the patrons. The best measure of retribution for showing such a video like this, would've been the Lakers actually taking care of business and winning the game. I'm sure Phil Jackson used this moment to plant a seed in case they face off in the 2nd or WCF rounds.

It is my understanding that in that time there were no flagrant fouls called, when Mchale clotheline Rambis. They just called a regular foul. Two free throws and that was it. And I remember seeing that clothesline video on abc, espn, and tnt, but I don't think they showed it at staples in the finals. and even the Raja clothesline. We might see it on tv or internet, but we don't have the same effect in the comfort of our house than someone that is in the arena and sees that video. Thats why the league doesn't want arenas showing those types of fouls. I really don't care, but rules are rules.
