Buy your complete credit report from all three companies and do it yourself. Research the companies it lists that hold your debts, contact them, and hash things out one step at a time.

It takes for fucking ever, but it will save you money, and most of the people that do this for money are douchers. If you insist on paying, then sign up for a good credit monitoring service, most of them have a department to do this shit for you, that is part of the monthly fee.

I wouldn't seek any kind of outside help. I don't know your situation but 9 times out of 10 outside help only makes it worse.

What exactly is it that you need to clean up?

Have you purchased your credit reports yet?

I can give you free advice and point you in the right direction if you can tell me the particulars of whats going on.

You can PM if you're more comfortable.

Not *quite* how I would put it, but this is pretty much right.

Just remember that the companies that do this earn money in the process, whether or not they actually end up helping you.

Best thing to do is to first understand how your credit score is calculated.

You can't repair it if you don't know how it works to begin with.

Secondly:

You should view this as something of a second or third job. It might not give you an actual paycheck, but it is a way you can spend your time that will make you better off financially in lots of ways.

I also have 3 or 4 sample letters that might help you get things removed that are beyond the statute of limitation. Simple letters but they work.

For those of you in the process of cleaning up your credit: This is the second best month of the year to send out your CM-RRR dispute letters, especially if you get them in TODAY.

They could have just negotiated to a charge off which might raise your score. However negotiating to a removal is far more productive and typically doesn't cost the consumer anything extra.

Some places recommend not paying on something until the collector is desperate enough to negotiate a lower settlement. Yeah it might raise your score enough to qualify for "their" loan but you're now fucked with a bunch of late pays and charge offs that will never come off.

Too risky.
