Now, to be clear, insurance covers most of the cost, thus the reason price really means nothing to me. But insurance doesnt cover all cost. Still dropped some good $$ on this, regardless.

Damn, that's still a nice system. Your rig there I'd think was better than the one that got stolen. You obviously built that yourself, you've made your "All Things Computer" knowledge pretty evident (you and BB) .

But you mentioned being really impressed with your speakers. I'm looking to upgrade, still using an old Dell set (pretty nice, all things considered).

I was looking at the Logitech 5500, which do you suggest?

Used to. I might play COD:Modern Warfare every now and then because I was into it for awhile. I bought TF2 (Orange Box...Portal, ftw), but just can't get into it. I never liked unrealistic shooters, don't know why.

Mostly strategy and rpg these days, as I got older. It's my irrepressable disdain for other humans, LOL. A little Gears of War too, but console shooters aren't the same otherwise.

I don't doubt that your top-o-the-line Dell is probably pretty badass, but that doesn't mean you "beat" his system. He's one GPU away from slightly less than astounding and 6gb away from absolutely, positively elite (especially with two 4870, man I never knew Radeon took the belt from nvidia last year...by a wiiiiiiide margin, too).

If you rreally want to compare, download+install+post from a program called Everest.

Well, that's a pretty wide can of worms.

What kind of speakers are you looking for? 2.1? 5.1?

What price range would you like to stay within?

Lastly, are these going to be used for gaming, movies, or music primarily? And if music, what kind? There are tons of computer speakers, some artificially "enhance" the sound, which might make it more fun to listen to but won't be as accurate and would be much less precise for certain kinds of music, such as classical.

For the following:

NZXT Aluminum Computer Case
Intel Q6600 Processor @ 2.4 Ghz
4 GB of DDR2 RAM @ 667 mhz
Western Digital 250 GB HDD @ 7200 rpm
512 mb Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTS (G92 core)
Acer 22" display with 1680 x 1050 resolution, 4 ms latency (I think)
Windows Vista Premium Edition
Thustmaster Force Feedback Joystick

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Call of Duty 2
World in Conflict
Microsoft Flight Simulator X (with expansion pack)
The Godfather
and several other games I don't feel like listing now.

I paid $950 total, cash, for the entire setup. This was actually one year ago this month. All I had to do was supply my own keyboard and mouse (not a problem considering I already had them for my laptop). Everything on the computer had a warranty still in effect except the case and the video card.

And if I get bored gaming on my small display, I can move my DVI to HDMI cable converter over to my 1080p 42" Panasonic Plasma Viera TV. Sometimes I do that, but I like being able to watch TV while I'm gaming, especially if I'm watching a game. And it sounds amazing, with a BIC DV62 6 inch 2 way center channel speaker, two 8 ohm Mirage OM-12 Omnipolar Tower Speakers with a frequency response of 32hz to 22 khz (producing enough bass that I don't want or need a subwoofer), and two Insignia 6 1/2" Bass Reflex Bookshelf Surround Speakers. This is all being driven by a Pioneer Elite VSX 21 receiver.

Your computer might be a little faster than mine, but at least I know what I own and what's under the hood of my system.

2 main functions; Gaming and Music.

Gaming is self explanatory.

Music is wide-ranging, from classical to metal, but really no rap.

Oh, the Fatality card is 7.1 I believe, so speakers that are 5.1 should suffice.

Depending on your space and price, I would always recommend home theatre speakers over multimedia. Even decent bookshelves will blow away almost any computer speak. But if you're looking for "a pretty good sound", the Z5500s are among the best computer speakers out there. Also to consider are the Creative GigaWorks ProGamer G500. Otherwise, look to home-theatre speakers (Onkyo and BIC make some incredible budget speakers). The sky is the limit for price and sound quality in that situation.

The deal was so good that I was highly skeptical of the guy purporting to give me that setup. It was actually a craigslist special. I was looking around online for computer stuff to build a rig with (thinking that I might buy one 6 months down the road, which would have been around oct of last year), and I thought, maybe I can get a vid card or a good display on craigslist. Most of the "deals" were incredibly overpriced, I saw several computers that were actually slower than the machine I bought being advertised for $2000+, and that's with no monitor at all.

However, the dude invited me over to inspect it personally. When I walked in he had the first level of CoD4 running, and I was hooked. I peeked inside of the machine, and it was everything he said it was. I said, "Dude, why are you selling this?" and he said that he just got a new 52" (I think, it was huge) Plasma TV and his wife said that either the PC or the TV had to go. He looked pretty upset but he wanted to get rid of it, sooooo, he just gave me all the games he had, which was really nice of him considering I would have bought the thing for that price with no games included.

The 8800 GTS did burn out :( due to a fault that nVidia hasn't admitted to yet, there have been tons of reports of that card being faulty. So I upgraded that to a 4870 ($170 on newegg), dropped a 1 TB hard drive in the chassis, and added the Swan M10 2.1 speaker setups. I also added a Xigmatek quad core CPU thermal cooler with arctic silver compound that dropped my core temp from ~40 on idle to ~33 under light load and ~40ish when gaming. I have spent maybe $1400 on the entire setup and I basically have a future-proofed PC for the next 18 to 24 months, more if I upgrade the GPU in say... august of 2010 and add a little more ram to the system.

If anyone wants to rumble, I'm Cry Havoc on Global Hawk's CoD4 server. They run an amazing mod of CoD4 called Open Warfare that expands some of the old maps and adds about 15 new maps to the mix. It also gives you the ability to rank all the way up to 99, I think, via a new prestige system. It's tons of fun and the =GH= is a great server with really decent admins. The server is now up into the top 650 CoD4 servers and the rank is going up basically every day.

Server address is 216.86.144.205
Port: 28930

Well, the only reason there are a lot of wires is because I have tons of gadgets running from my PC. There's a case power cord, a power cord for the monitor, and the DVI cord running from the display to the tower. That's it. Other than that, I have my mouse (my keyboard is bluetooth), the charger for my GPS device, my iPhone charger, USB cable for my camera, etc.

I actually would like to have a new case. As nice as my current one looks, it does not have any frontside USB ports, which can be an annoyance. But it's not enough of a reason to completely change cases yet.

I think my pic days are over. Youre just going to have to work with what you got. So far, so good I say.

Why would photo bucket delete the pedo bear picture and not the gay dildo picture?

By itself, it's no big deal - but in context with all the other paraphinalia, I find the presence of the SPAM very disturbing...

Quick update on the super-rig.

My two Samsung Solid State Drives (256GB each) running in Raid 0 took a shit 2 minutes after I unlocked Mass Effect 2 from Steam.

Literally, I went to start ME2 and it died. Now the BIOS doesnt even recognize the drive(s) at all.

RMA time. Oh well, the only thing I lose is my KOTOR save files because I kept all my music and pictures on my 1TB backup drive (which is fine). I always keep and old PC in the storage room anyway. I plugged that bitch in, did the Windows updates, and am playing some pretty classic games as we speak (Rome, Civ, KOTOR, etc).

Early adoption of new technology isnt a bad thing. TBH, I give 2:1 odds Falcon Northwest doesnt even have 256gb SSDs anymore and I get two 1TB SSDs as compensation in my RMA.

I wouldnt cry too much, thats for sure.

You know, CH, I never checked. I just assumed since these were 1st gen that the tech had advanced sufficently to accomodate.

Quick google...

Yup. (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227502)

Heh, well, it's almost 4 grand. I don't know if I'd call that available for the public yet.
