Byron Scott is an idiot...up 3, with only 7 seconds left...why even let Finley shoot that? FOUL on the inbounds play, make it a foul shooting contest.
Absolutely MORONIC !!!
Congrats Spurs, you and us are gonna tangle in the first round, but you have HCA.

we play mavericks
Ask Manu when he 'fouled' CP3 at the Hornets home game last time. Too risky.

Buddy, I'm a huge Texans and Astros fan, so I suffer with all the Houston franchise disappointments, but when it comes to basketball I'm glad I'm a Spurs fan!

It's possible Scott did tell his team to foul if it would not give the Spurs a three pointer, which certainly they could have fouled Mase while he was dribbling.
Even Moronavich the uber strategist told Manu not to foul at the end of the fateful 2006 season vs Mavs. Sometimes players just dont list. Ironic.
(I know the Hornets should have fouled DD, I'm just giving a similiar example in Manus brain fart for the ages.)

Absolutely MORONIC !!!Does any team in the NBA actually do that? I've seen the Van Gundy brothers do that but that's about it. Fans always whine about that strategy about not fouling but rare is the NBA team that actually uses that strategy.
Pop has never called for a foul in that situation. There's just too much leeway given to continuation.

Many coaches don't foul in that situation....besides the defense has to do a better job guarding the perimeter KNOWING the Spurs are going for 3.
As for the playoffs, I will enjoy watching the Blazers and Rockets....I think it may very well be the best/most compelling series of the 1st round personally.

I remember a certain commentator Walton advocating for the "guaranteed" 2pt foul, but as Timvp said, what if they get 3fts? What if they make the basket? It is hard to be sure, so why not play honest, hard perimeter defense on the 3pt line?

Rudy T did it a lot, Larry Brown does it too.....I just think it is a safer play.
I guess I was wrong about playing you guys......good luck...hope to see you in the WC finals.

Tell your guys to DEFEND THE 3-POINT LINE AT ALL COSTS.....that's it. The Hornets knew we were going to take a 3. You potentially open up a can of worms trying to get that foul off.

D-up. If you know EXACTLY what the team is going to do and know they'll only have enough time to make MAYBE one pass (which would create an even more-rushed shout) you d-up and don't chance it.

82games.com did a stat run on this. Intentionally fouling (for the 2 only, not the trey), was far superior risk. In the case of tonights game, of course Hornets should not have fouled Findawg, but when Mase put the ball on the floor they should have hacked away.
