I was actually looking at this the other day when I was comparing our success compared to the other "great" franchises of this league. We can be put up against any franchise in the league from a success standpoint. The 37 playoff appearances is impressive...but I think the 22 fifty win seasons is even better(1999 adjusted for 82 games).

Nice to some fans still positive in the POs this year. I'm not saying it won't be hard as hell, and the odds of Spurs getting #5 is 1/8, but I'll be cheering for that 12.5% every GODDAMN game!!!! GSG!!!!

One of the positives I thought about overnight was that we went up against a young, dynamic, hungry team in the Hornets of the 2008 postseason that was better than last year's and this year's Mavs team combined and also wasn't scared of SA's mystique. The Spurs team that played them were less fresh and slightly less deep than this postseason's team....granted, Manu was a bit gimpy rather than out altogether and Tim was healthier. Still, we had no reason winning that series in 7 after getting torn out the frame in games 1 & 2. We'd never really been a great comeback team prior to that series and things looked bleek (as Jerry Sloan would put it) because we looked worn out and depleted to open round 2. But we showed some of the greatest resolve I've ever seen in franchise in battling back to not only tie the series but to move on to the WCF. I think that matchup showed the players on our team something very important: Believe in the system, don't panic when the chips are down, and there are no limits to what the team can acheive. Add that to the fact that new guys like Mason and Gooden are naturally fearless and you have a good mix of confident players who know the series isn't over until one team is eliminated. It will be a slugfest, but one we can definitely win.

BTW, nice work even if I did have to see Dallas on the list.

Yeah, but I still have fond memories of that team. I went to see the Chaps play against the Kentucky Colonels in their first season. My best friend and I painted our basketballs with red, white and blue paint. That didn't last too long. :lol

This really demonstrates how the Spurs, compared to other franchises, have not experienced long periods of losing seasons. Even during the so called “dark ages” of Spurs history, 1986 to 1989, when I became a Spurs fan, San Antonio managed to get into the playoffs under Weiss and Fitzsimmons. So compared to the extended droughts of other teams, the Spurs' losing periods measure as merely blips on the screen. Indeed, the Spurs have a winning legacy.

Grabbing still another division crown only enhances the legacy of the franchise as a whole and of the Popovich/Duncan Spurs specifically. And while the legacy is great, the people who've made it and the abilities that allow those people to create that legacy are what keeps Believe alive with me.

The Spurs don't win because they have had such great success; but the fact that this group has had such great success makes it all the more likely that they will find ways to continue winning.

Believe.

For whatever it's worth, the Pop/Duncan Spurs have averaged 57.75 wins (or the equivalent) and their low water mark is a generally-exceptional 53 win season in 1999-2000. There are franchises that would be thrilled with a 53 win season at all; of late in San Antonio, that's a relative disappointment.

By the way, over it's history in the NBA, the Spurs have averaged 49.3 wins per season.

It's all coming together.

What a magnificent way to go into the postseason.

If all the time playing point helped Roger Mason execute that perfect pass to Finley, maybe Pop knew what he was doing.

And Tim Duncan was phenomenal in the OT, vintage. Defense, passing, confident shots... I got goose pimples.

Last year when Manu went down, the Spurs didn't know how to handle it, no contingency plan.

This year having played so many games without him and Manu being shelved for the rest of the season already, the Spurs are ready to dance, on 1 leg if need be.

Lets go.

I Dreamed A Dream!!! Understated Excellence and the power of positive thinking in the face of detractors.

HELYA!
The Little General, The Admiral, Iceman; vindication plus.
Tim Duncan, this '09 run is dedicated to you.
Susan Boyle's careworn face and your knees wrapped with care,
both will go far to wake up the masses to grudging admiration.
Class and talent transcends all.
!!!G*S*G*!!!

Yeah. They made it to the finals before they could turn their back on New Jersey and run to Brooklyn, THE TREACHOROUS MOTHER F....I mean, uh yeah good for them. Sorry, just a little annoyed about the prospect of having to travel across the Hudson to watch any professional basketball live.

they aren't moving to Brooklyn, it won't happen in my lifetime anyway, they should play in Newark. Off tpoic are you from NJ? Just kind of sounds like it because you said annoyed about having to travel across the Hudson

I hope not....at least until I move out to California anyway. :lol Newark is a better site for the team from a transportation standpoint in my opinion.

Yes, Jersey born and bred. Actually went to school in Newark....the same prep school as J.R. Smith but I graduated a year before he transferred there, luckily for me. What about yourself?
