Sports blog The Big Lead has given us all an early Christmas present by reporting on the imminent departure of ESPN basketball analyst Stephen A. Smith, a man who has come to be nearly as despised as hemorrhoids thanks to his bombastic, catch-phrase ridden on-air style and bootlicking tendencies. “Screamin’ A.,” The Big Lead points out, was once one of the hottest commodities on the World-Wide Leader, even landing his own talk-show, but in recent months has been eclipsed as a hoops reporter by such comparatively muted personalities as J.A. Adande and Tim Legler. Evidently, the people at ESPN came to be as annoyed by Smith’s hypey, ass-kissing, “the louder I say it the more right I’ll seem” approach to dissecting roundball as most in the viewing audience. Or perhaps whatever contract Smith signed with Satan to become so famous in the first place has simply run out. Either way, ESPN basketball coverage will soon be a lot less irritating. Now if we could just do something about Jay Mariotti…

:toast

I went to the recent Spurs/Mavs game in Dallas and the EspnZone bus was there. I walked by and a guy w/ ESPN asked me "Hey, ya wanna take a picture w/ the crew (cardboard cutout version)?" I said, "Honestly, man. I have NO desire to do that. I really hate Stephen A." He responded, "Haha. Yeah, we get tha a lot. Well, you could always take a picture of yourself givin him the finger."

I laughed.

Great news to hear. Stephen A is pretty annoying.

Anyone who speaks on ESPN is mutable in my view, but I don't agree with you here. Smith looks comically mad while muted, while Mariotti has that disgusting fat blubbery look.

Seriously, why are fat people allowed on entertainment television?

Mariotti isn't entertaining by any stretch of the imagination. But at least I don't have to change the channel. Stephen Asshat Smith made by blood curdle every time I accidentally heard him open his asslicking piehole.

He's an unprofessional blowhard, but I too can tolerate Mariotti. At least Page and Reali are usually giving him shit. Stephen A is entirely unwatchable.

As an aside, I think it's hilarious that Tony Kornheiser hates Mariotti so much that he refuses to even say his name.

Tony Kornhole is a bigger douche than Mariotti could aspire to be. If he was never on PTI again I could bear to watch it.

Just had a disturbing thought. A PTI style show with Tony Kornheiser and Stephen A. Smith. :vomit:

Dick Stockton and Gary Bender were the shit though.

Stockton is still great. Gary Bender screwed up the end of the '83 NCAA championship game though. Kind of anti-climatic when the PbP guy doesn't know if the dunk counted or not.

Were stuck with him till the end of the playoffs, though. He's going to finish the rest of his contract. Espn offer him a lower offer, but he doesnt want it. Which I doubt that espn even came with an offer in the first place.

I like Steven A Smith, he has the balls to call espn off. He was right about this too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oe3r5pIHBAU

Skip Bayless atleast watches other teams outside Lakers and Cavs, which all the lebron/kobe ass kissers dont.
