My wife and I usually go to a matinee movie, anywhere between 3-5 pm. Yesterday we decided at the last minute to go at 7:00. BIG MISTAKE!!! The theater was filled with HS kids just wanting to goof around and make it unenjoyable for everyone. It didn't help that we went to see the Ring2, which attracted alot of kids. Too make a long story short, the ushers had to come and quiet down a group of kids, and that helped a little bit. We had to tell one girl sitting in back of us to stop kicking our seats! TERRIBLE!! The movie believe it or not was pretty good, but still couldn't enjoy it with all the noise. Now we know better!! If it's past the matinee, then we'll skip the movies!

Let me guess..you went to Silverado?
That place is notorious for HS punk kids. You drive up and it looks like a damn HS dance out front. Everyone wearing their brand new, shirt of the week from Hot Topic.
Most days I would steer clear if it wasn't for the student discount :elephant

Live Oak Theatre is pretty bad as well when it comes to high schoolers.

Yeah Silverado is pretty bad. They are always kicking people out of there for acting dumb. I go for the student discount too :lol Was the Ring2 really good? I was gonna watch it last night but didn't. I'm not much of a scary movie type of person though. I also couldn't believe it was rated PG13.

I agree with that and this thread, I hate going to movies at night I'd rather watch them in the daytime. These little HS cocksuckers really make the experience about as enjoyable as a fucking prostate exam

Well, I go to the Quarry, and the AMC out on 1604 and 35 in I think Live Oak.

No problems there, nice and quiet, and its always 7 something or 8 something.

MannyIsGod
03-20-2005, 07:28 PM
Well, considering there are 2 theaters in town where you can't take kids and anyone under 18 can't get in, you have options.

The Alamo Drafthouse and The Bijou both cator to older crowds, and I've never had a problem at either place.

There's no punks there probably because they play movies that are already on DVD, I think I saw on their playlist Ladder 49 still there.
That sucks cause i actually do like that theatre, but I wish they'd have newer movies there damn it. :pctoss

Plus its always cool going to the theatres with ZStomp, cause he wards off the punks and thugs with his gun and badge from work. They look and see the gun and they freak :lol :lol

Yea, the closest mall for the east side used to be Windsor Park, which is right up the road from me, but that's becoming one hell of an eye sore. Mervyns is the only tenant left along with crap inside of it. When Mervyns lease is up, and it's coming shortly, rumor has them shutting down and moving to either the Forum shopping center or Rolling Oaks Mall. They need to do something constructive with that damn Windsor Mall.

The Bijou and the Drafthouse also have a very limited selection.

MannyIsGod
03-21-2005, 05:40 PM
Well, the Bijou tends to go more torwards independent films, but the Drafthouse shows most of the big hits.

I don't know what to say other than that, if you have problems with children and want to watch a movie without them around, go to either one of those theaters. Hell you can even get beer and food at either.

I also like the special shows the Drafthouse has for a couple of bucks. You won't get quiet in those theaters, but thats because everyone usually cheers or yells at the movie for varius reasons. But thats the whole point.

JoeChalupa
03-21-2005, 06:24 PM
I do want to take the wife on a date to the Drafthouse and check it out.

I hope it is not for the young hip crowd since my oldest daughter says that "I'm not cool" and that I'm old because I try to the hip-hop thing, the Eminem move..you know, where I wave my arm up and down..I was even watchng MTV Spring break and I showed her all the people in the crowd were doing it but she said, "Yeah dad, but you don't look cool doing it!".

WTF!? Have I finally crossed over into "Middle Age" and am no longer hip but now just a hipster doofus? Say it ain't so!!!

Am I too old to oogle at the likes of Jessica Simpson and Jessica Alba?

I don't think so. You are only as old as you feel and with Viagra I plan on feeling young for years to come. (No pun intended).

Your right Manny! We've been to the Drafthouse and the Bijou, and we both like them. We had a Huebner Oaks gift card that we hadn't used. Since we were going at 700 at regular price, we thought we used it.

MannyIsGod
03-21-2005, 06:48 PM
Gotcha.

I tend to drift torwards the Bijou more because of the movies they show there, but I like the drafthouse environment also.

Also, Northwest 14 on Callaghan and I10 is always DEAD. I'd imagine if you went to see a movie there you wouldn't have much of a problem kids, or anyone else for that matter. No one is ever at that theater.

Problem not solved.

Unless you want to drive some of these people from their home to the theater back home again.

Manny also suggested Northwest 14 on Callaghan and I10. :)

IMO, you can easily find a movie theatre in this city where kids don't bother you. We go to Silverado all the time and never have problems. It's probably just a matter of timing ... logically if you don't want to be around a lot of teenagers, don't go to a movie geared to teams on a weekend night. I'm sure that anyone can find a good one in their neighborhood, beit on the North, South, East or West side of town.

I was told that because AMC is so close to Fiesta 16, they can't compete with one another. They must split new releases. Consequently, AMC has to show older movies to fill up the theater.

been to The Drafthouse once to check it out for a class project. We didn't get to see a movie cuase their showings are kinda spread apart and the next showing would of been too late. This was when it first opened and it seemed somewhat crowded. We plan to go back though and actually take in a movie and try the food. To anyone that has gone lately, does it get pretty packed?

that sucks, you'd think that AMC Theatres being AMC and Fiesta being Regal Cinemas you'd have them both going at their throats. either way, if there's a new good film at AMC 24 i'll go there, if not then the Quarry or Cielo Vistas maybe. I've been to Fiesta 1 time and I vowed never ever to set foot in there again, that place was a dump! I dunno if its changed any since i last been there.
