Every year since 2003, one of two things has happened in the NBA playoffs:

1. The Spurs went all the way and won the title (2003, 2005, 2007).

2. The team that eliminated the Spurs went on to the Finals, where they lost to the Eastern Conference Champion (2004, 2006, 2008).

So...if the Mavs do win this series, then they will be the Western Conference Champions. Unfortunately, it also means they will lose to the EC Champ in the Finals. :lol
