Rundown: When Dirk Nowitzki went to the bench with his third personal foul with 8:28 remaining in the second quarter, the Spurs had an 11-point lead (after Drew Gooden made the free throws awarded for Nowitzki’s foul). Without their leading scorer, the Mavericks trimmed the Spurs’ lead to four points by halftime because Bass scored eight of the 10 points he got in the quarter after Nowitzki’s departure. He made 5 of 7 shots in the period and grabbed four rebounds, the sort of numbers the Mavs expect in one period from Nowitzki, but not Bass.

The Mavericks grabbed 10 offensive rebounds and turned them into 21 second-chance points, 13 more than the Spurs were able to muster from their 12 offensive rebounds. Erick Dampier had four of the offensive boards for the Mavs, with three putback baskets.

We had 4 point blank tip-ins in the first half that we squandered, then stopped rebounding on the offensive end in the second half, and gave them up over and over and over again.

Sadly true. I thought the team as a whole did a good job on the boards. Sure, we missed a few put backs that came back to haunt us but giving up in the 2nd half was pathetic.

They got pushed around by Damp and that was that.

i keep saying that the real difference in offense for the mavs in this game was the dampier-bass duo: 24 pts on 80 % FG. that's unexpected and made the difference. not Barea at 6-14 or even not Josh Howard whose 9-18, while still good, are more expected from a good offensive player.

24 pts-80 % combined from two usual poor offensive threats is too much.

If the Spurs can continue to do the job on Dirk/Terry for the better chunk of the game, I like the Spurs chances. Bass/Barea had great games, but if they are going to rely on them you have to take your chances.

how the fark were the mavs numerous o.rbds a hidden stat. it was quite obvious if you watched the game. we didn't reboud on the defensive end at all in the second half.

This is simply yet another deficiency that showed up when we played this team 3 years ago. It rears its ugly head again. Freakin' Unbelievable.
