CLEVELAND -- The Cavaliers have called a 1:30 p.m. press conference at which it appears Mike Brown will be named NBA Coach of the Year. The league and team have refused to confirm the announcement but several sources have indicated Brown has won the honor.

If so, Brown would be just the second coach in team history to win the award after Bill Fitch in 1976. This season Brown led the Cavs to a franchise-record 66 wins, the first division title in 33 years, and the first No. 1 seed in franchise history. In February, Brown became the second coach in team history to coach in the the All-Star Game. He was also named Eastern Conference Coach of the Month three times.

He did it by creating a trust-first mantra that he showed by delegating some powers to his assistants and key veteran players. It was a risk that paid off in a massive way in the regular season.

The Cavs have a 1-0 series lead on the Detroit Pistons in their first round playoff series. Game 2 is tomorrow at 8 p.m. at The Q.

great coaching job.

"fellas, give LeBron the ball.

LeBron, do something with the ball."

Any questions?"

For almost two full seasons he was pressured by the media to turn them into a fastbreak team and showcase Lebron on offense but kept them as a halfcourt team even though he they underachieved last year and it almost cost him his job.

He now has set up one of the best defenses in the league, arguably the best, and while Lebron helps that a little, most of the great defense that team plays is because of Mike Brown's system.

I think Danny Ferry gets a lot of props for sticking with a coach and trading all the players who refused to play defense and sending all the other players the message that if you want to stay here you need to give a full effort on D.

yeah, LeBron was clearly stifled on offense this year thatnks to Mike Brown's half court offense. i guess he'd be averaging 65 ppg if DAntoni was his coach.

funny how he can go from goat one year to coach of the year the next.

life in the NBA.

I think coaches in the NBA are grossly overrated and GMs underrrated.

The impact of coaching in general is overrated.

The way certain Suns fans were in love with D'antoni from 2005-2007 but then in 2008 were convinced any other coach could take that team all the way was hilarious.

WHat about McMillan? I think he's done a great job with his young team.

Think about this: what would have the Cavs' record been if they were playing in the West ?

Yup, congrats, Coach Brown, you'll be fired within two years... even if you win a championship.

With all those games against the Grizzlies, T-Wolves, Clippers, Kings, Thunder and Warriors? With two fewer games against the Celtics and Magic? Maybe better than it is now. The East is, after all, the superior conference.

Considering the fact they were 26-4 against the West I'd say it would still be good.

Considering they only lost 4 games vs the West they would probably win 70 games

They'd manage to pull one out of their ass, even the Suns have managed to the last two seasons.

Get out of 2007. The East is better than the West by every measurable.
