same-sex couples' adoption (http://www.freep.com/article/20090423/NEWS06/904230446/1008/NEWS06/Michigan+news+briefs++House+committee+OKs+adoption +by+same-sex+couples)

It's only half of equality under the law, but it's a step in the right direction.

The kid can't turn out any more screwed up than one living under horrible conditions. Two loving parents who can both emotionally and financially support the kid. That's a pretty good hand to be dealt in life.

The gay community should be happy in the idea that eventually all youth will be indoctrinated to homosexuality as the norm thus making it inevitable they will eventually be treated as equals without too much bias in this country.

This won't happen. If you think so, you're still tripping.

So, if homosexuality has been around since ..forever shouldn't gays be afforded the right to treated as equal?

Why would you assume a kid would even turn out screwed up in that sort of environment?? Its as if you believe two gay parents = horrible condition...

if that's not what you meant, it sure does come out that way.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by this either, "indoctrinated to homosexuality as the norm"... if you mean that eventually all children will be taught to accept other people's differences and let other people live the way they want to live, then I suppose we're talking about a good thing.

Stable homes for our kids--what is more basic than that?

Not the norm as in the only thing, but the norm as in a regular viable option in our society. I should have worded that better.

I know the arguments the social conservatives use and that would be my defense towards them in favor of the gay community's side to it.

Contrary to popular belief, most Americans still oppose teh gheys.

Homosexuality is the wedge issue par excellence in the US. It splits Americans right down the middle. Looking at the overall trend, equality of acceptance/disapproval (http://www.gallup.com/poll/108115/Americans-Evenly-Divided-Morality-Homosexuality.aspx) bodes ill for the putative anti-ghey majority.

Still, homosexuality emerges as the most divisive of 16 major social and cultural issues measured in the May 8-11, 2008 survey. Only doctor-assisted suicide and abortion come close to it in splitting public opinion.
