According to yahoo sports, the Mavs are favored by 5 tonight (some lines have it a 4 1/2).
Although there is often a back-and-forth in the playoffs, this line seems way too high, a great chance to collect some dough if you back the Spurs:
1)
Duncan had only 28 minutes on Monday and has two more days of rest.
2)
The Spurs are the oldest team in th NBA and got lots of rest.
3)
Dallas and SA are in the same state, the same time zone, and the same division, making home court less important.
4)
The Spurs are known to be more exceptional on the road, rather than at home.
5)
The Spurs never lose in the first round when they have Duncan, and this is a pivitol game. The Mavs have done nothing in the playoffs since game 2 of the '06 finals, and the team is getting weaker by the year.
6)
The Mavs do not match up with Tony Parker or Tim Duncan. Kidd is old and slow amd the Mavs have no inside post up option. The Spurs two-man game with Duncan and Parker and three three-ppint shooters waiting seems unstoppable. Duncan sets more picks than anyone in the NAB it seems.
7)
Four points is one of the most common point differentials in NBA basketball, so if they lose by 4, you still win the bet.
8)
Dirk doesn't look good these days. He does not seem to raise his game in the playoffs, despite that some of his historical playoff stats look good on first glance.
9)
Duncan said his knee injury was over.
10)
Duncan stats in the last three games show he is back.
99 minutes
25-45 FG (56%)
10-12 FT (83%)
60 points
39 rebounds
4 blocks
13/6 assist TO ratio
Duncan is still laying back a little, he will rise in crunch time.
Go Spurs! I'll take the Spurs to win by 5.

Those are 10 weak-ass points. Put your money on the Spurs +5, then.

I'm ignorant about how sports bets work.
Say you put down $20 on the Spurs to win, how much would you win?

They said the Spurs are +5 today. That means if the Spurs can win OR if the lose by 4 points or less, you win. If that happens you win 90-95% of the money you put down so about $18. So ultimately you'll get $20+$18=$38 back in your hand.
With the +175 "moneyline" mentioned above, it's either the Spurs win or they lose. There is no room for losing by 4 points but there is a higher payout. If you bet $20 on the moneyline and the Spurs win, you win $35. So ultimately you get $20+35=$55 back in your hand.

I never bet on the Spurs, so I personally don't touch it..I would get nothing out of it at all if the Spurs lose the game AND I lose money..
I bet on Dallas in game 1 though, since I wanted to get something out of it in case the Spurs lost..I only bet 50$, and I made a rounded 120$..

Duncan also has a +25 for the playoffs:
http://www.nba.com/statistics/plusminus/plusminus_sort.jsp?pcomb=1&season=42008&split=9&team=Spurs
Best 2-man combo is Duncan-Parker at +28
Three-man; Duncan, Parker, Bowen at + 22
four-man; Duncan, Parker, Finley, Bonner at + 14
five-man is Duncan, Parker, Bowen, Gooden, Mason at + 9

The spurs were a bad play tonight. I said why in another thread.
Only time I've bet on the Spurs was winning the championship in 2007 before the All-Star break. Worked out pretty good.
