CHICAGO – As the target of a possible violent threat by a Chicago man, Boston Celtics guard Tony Allen was under intensive watch by an increased force of NBA security officers Thursday night at the United Center, multiple sources told Yahoo! Sports.

NBA security staff had an additonal presence around the Celtics bench.

“It’s a private team matter,” Celtics president Rich Gotham told Yahoo! Sports. “It’s just not something that we are going to talk about.

NBA spokesman Tim Frank said the league doesn’t comment on security issues.

Sources say that the trouble stems from an alleged disagreement with a Chicago individual that dates back over a year.

Allen played one minute in the second quarter of Game 3 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals between the Celtics and Bulls. Allen, 26, is a Chicago native.

After the Celtics’ 107-86 victory, Celtics coach Doc Rivers wouldn’t discuss the cirumstance involving Allen, telling Yahoo! Sports that he wasn’t at liberty to discuss it. “It is what it is,” Rivers said.
