Yeah, it looks like he is. Props to Pop finally realizing something that should have been done months ago :tu

In this situation, Pop pretty much had to. The Spurs were going to get blown out of Mason started on Barea again.

Bowen gets the start

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich has decided to respond to the lowest-scoring playoff game in franchise history with a chess move that, on the surface, seems counterintuitive.

He will start Bruce Bowen in Game 4 this afternoon against the Mavericks, in place of Roger Mason Jr. Put another way: Popovich has opted to bench his third-leading scorer in favor of a defensive specialist.

It will be Bowen's first start since Nov. 28.

This move is a counter to the Mavericks' lineup adjustment in Game 3, when coach Rick Carlisle started mighty mite J.J. Barea in place of Antoine Wright. Bowen has had the most success of any Spurs player in containing Barea so far in this series.

you'd rather he go 'Tony Parker' on Mason? the only thing Mason saw the first 5 minutes of Game 3 was the back of Barea's jersey.

Finley can guard Howard better than Mason can....Pop is now going defense first....something we havent seen all season....:tu

Did I say that? Of course Bowen should be on Barea at this point. But how well do you think a major adjustment in response to J.J. BAREA bodes for the Spurs' chances? Ultimately, I'm upset Hill got jerked around during the last half of the season when he could be helping us right now, but that's par for the course this year.

Guess we haven't been watching the same series. I'd never put Fin in a "defense first" lineup, and I wouldn't put him ahead of Mason when you want scoring. The starters are the ones that are going to be able to clear space for Mason, whereas having Finley and Bowen and Bonner on the offensive side of the ball at the same time is hugely redundant.

Besides, I don't want Mason playing point guard.

see what happens? start bowen, our defense starts off strong, they dont start on a huge run and get confident.

NOT ROCKET SCIENCE...good thing pop finally came to his senses

Howard cant be guarded by Finley, you and I know this....BUT Mason would just get slaughtered Howard.

Finley is taller and stronger than Mason so if we were going for a better defensive lineup (which I believe Pop is doing) then you go with Finley....its not that difficult to concieve.
