Come on now. Safety & O-line depth are 2 primary concerns acorrding to both Stephen & Jerry.

2 of the highest rated safetys in M Moore from Mizzou & Rashad Johnson from Bama (Still on the board), along with P. Loadholt from OU were all right there for the taking with the 51st pick. Loadholt would be a solid replacement for either Adams on the Left or Colombo on the right. 6"9 and 360LBs, plus he's played guard before so he has some versatility.

Instead, lets get 2 more picks for a total of 12.

What happend to this team being a Tony Romo injury away or getting rid of cancerous T.O. from being a unified team and making a run to the super bowl.

Why the need for all the picks. Plus, do we really think 12 picks will make the roster and sign!!!!!!!!!

2 early picks on Suday, let's see if they take Johnson from Bama.

James Thompson OLB from Wstrn Illinos w/69th pick.
Robert Brewster OT from Ball State w/75th pick.

Thompson's best grade was a 6th or 7th round pick.
Brewster was the same. Neither are rated as top 20 prospects at their position.

At least Parcells knew how to draft (Ratliff, Barber, Ware, etc...)
FUCKING JERRY JONES. Can't he die in some plastic surgery mishap or something!!!

I'm done watching. The Cowboys can have their last 10 picks!

Rated by who? ESPN? Every team rates their players differently based on their scouting teams. There is absolutely no way to judge a draft until about 3 to 4 years after the draft. I've never heard of these two guys before, but I'm not stupid enough to think that means anything. I'd never heard of Marion Barber or Orlando Scandrick either, but those turned out to be value finds.

You don't know jack shit about any of these players, just what ESPN tells you so calm down and wait until they get a chance to suit up and play before you start bitching.

Are you kidding, both Scandrick and Barber were all conference performers for their teams the Gophers & Boise State.

Barber & Maroney tore it up at Minnesota. Scandrick was a lock down corner in the WAC.

Next thing you're going to say drafting McGee was smart too. For what, it's not like Stanback can't run the wildcat.

I will say picking McGee is a head scratcher simply because he fills no need. Romo and Kitna are 1 &2 so unless they're keeping 3 QBs on the roster seems like a wasted pick.

An opinion isn't right or wrong. It can be idiotic, like saying that Barber & Scandrick were nobody's in college.

Agreed.
The Dallas Cowboys site says he has a "Strong Arm!" I guess that was before he tore his labrum & struggled to throw the deep ball all this past year watching A&M.

I never said they were "nobody's", just that I had never heard of them before the Cowboys drafted them. Point is just because you aren't aware of a guy that doesn't make it a bad pick. According to one league official being interviewed on 105.3 The Fan the Cowboys got good value at these picks. Nobody knows until they hit the field and get a chance to play.

Yeah Bum is still the coach, Jerry is still the GM.

Change those two factors then it could be time to be confident in the Cowboys again.

No, if Bum were the coach, they would be doing better. Bum didn't take any shit off of players, his son did not inherit that quality.

I think its fucking stupid to say this was a poor draft. I've read plenty of non-ESPN sites that say the Cowboys got decent value. Lets see what these guys do and then grade them in a year or 2.

I will say the McGee pick was stupid however, lol.

Picking a kicker in the 5th was pretty stupid too, IMO.

Nick Folk has been money. If you want to bring a kicker in for a little competition, that's fine but you bring in a FA. I like the OT they got though.

Jason Williams was a play maker for Western Illinois defense. I will have to wait and see, it might not be as bad as the fan think. As for the kicker, he also had other skill as a linebacker, runningback, and quaterback during his high school and junior college year.
Whoever heard of DeMarcus Ware when most of the fan wanted Shawn Merriman. Ware is a pretty good player.

Although having a whole bunch of people to play special teams couldn't hurt. Imagine what the Cowboys might be able to do with a little bit of field position.

Honestly though, we did need to improve the special teams. They have been terrible the past two years. Not to mention that while Folk is great at kicking long field goals. He isn't on kickoffs. He always kicks it short. Maybe that's do to coaching or maybe he just simply does not kick it deep enough. But that hurts our special teams tremendously. Our coverage is also inconsistent.

With all the cap money tied up and all the cash going Ware's way it's obvious Jerry and the Puppet drafted to turn over the bottom of the roster from more expensive vets to cheap late round rookies while hoping a couple of them turn out to be gems who compete for starting jobs down the line. Will it work? We'll see - but no doubt money played a big issue in this draft.

There's only so much money you can spend with the hard cap the NFL has. Here's to hoping the Scouting Department knows their stuff.

Folk had ZERO touchbacks this last year, which is unbelievable for an NFL kicker. Dude has ice running through his veins when it comes to kicking a field goal, and I love him for his clutchness, but he lacks in the kick off department. I hated seeing teams start at the 30, 35, 40, or 45 yard line after a bad kick off and poor tackling on special teams

This kid Beuller(sp?), 55% of the time gets touchbacks. AND he can tackle. Alot of these players the Cowboys drafted contributed to and were really good on special teams in there college careers. Now we can get guys like Austin, Hurd, Stanback out of there on kick offs and get guys in there who know how to tackle a mother fucker.

Whisky Dog
04-29-2009, 11:49 AM
I think a lot of Folk's problem on kickoffs is that he was instructed by the coaches to directional kick to try to help out the shitty as special teams coverage unit. They wanted him to kick high and towards the sideline to try to pin the returner and use the sideline as a barrier. He had like 4 or 5 kickoffs that went out of bounds last year, and this is the reason why. The coaches didn't want him to kick straight away deep because if he didn't get a touchback there was a damn good chance the shitty coverage unit wouldn't fill their lanes and give up 6. Getting better special teams coverage units is the 1st step to not having to have your kicker try to hit the corners all the time.

Yea, that's exactly it. Hard to get touchbacks when your coaches tell you to kick towards the sidelines. I will say with Folk just coming off a surgery, that He-Man is a nice insurance wise, but wasting a 5th on him seems like overkill. I read an article recently where he says in the new Boys stadium he will be able to kick 80% of his kicks for touchbacks, which if true would be really nice. I really don't see the Cowboys carrying two kickers though, so he better prove himself in other areas, because there is no one I would rather have kicking other than maybe Gostkowski than Folk. You are correct though, coverage must improve, you can't just cover that shit up with a strong legged kicker.

I don't hate the Mcgee pickup as much as most. He is big, pretty strong and decently mobile, and the boys haven't had a young guy to sit and develop since Romo. Kitna will only be here this year, so they wanted to lock up the back up position for some years to come.

As for the rest of the draft, I was disappointed. I liked some of the guys they got like Mickens, Jason and Brandon Williams and the kids from Cincy, but they pretty much seemed to be drafting just to fill out there special teams.I know they think they have depth, and the special teams could definitely use improvement, but I just felt they could have done more.
Passing on Michael Johnson really pissed me off too.

I think Jerr Uh wanted a guy who could kick off, which Buehler definitely can, but needed a reason to put two kickers on gameday rosters..so why not draft a guy who could outbench all his college teammates...even the linemen? This way you could use him in other aspects as well.
