This is I think is what is killing the series for us. The only thing that made us look good during the regular season is practically non-existent in the playoffs. The games that TP is being collapsed on he needs to get the ball back out. Do we lack motion in the offense or is Dallas that good on defense that we can't get any open looks? I just don't see as many 3 point attempts. We apparently are losing anyways trying to go away from the 3 pointers. Might aswell let them fly again and go out with a bang.

Dallas is staying with our shooters in the perimeter. They're playing Duncan one on one, so unless Tim makes them pay, our three point shooting is not coming back anytime soon.

Hell, some of our guys missed wide open 3's.

We're not getting the open looks that we were getting before.

They're using single coverage on Duncan and he hasn't been able to make them pay.

They talk about wanting to stop Parker but I think there just fine with him scoring 40 and losing if it means guys like Bonner, Finley, and Mason are not getting open looks. Even if they collapse the lane on Parker he's so crafty he can still score.

Dallas is content with Parker and Duncan doing all the scoring while the role players are taken out of the game.

The Spurs on the other hand are happy with taking Dirk and the Jet out of the game while letting the role players beat them.

Yeah, I know we've had some open looks and guys need to hit them but they're not coming consistently as before.

Where did our 3 point shooting go?

Maybe where 3 point shooting usually goes in the playoffs (unless it's set up by a very strong inside-out game).

As great a guy as Matt Bonner seems to be (and maybe because he's such a conscientious good guy), he can't be trusted to hit those cold-blooded daggers like Jack or Horry. I'm afraid Bonner is just Hedo redux when it comes to playoff ball.

Dallas is doing pretty much what we used to do with SUns.

Let Amare/nash get their points. and close the 3pt shooters.

In years past, how many times have our Spurs gone into a playoff series against top-notch 3-point shooting or top-notch jump shooting teams and just took away the 3-point shot and made them low percentage shooting teams?

Those teams are built to lose in the playoffs against smart defenses. We're one of those teams now. :(

The spurs entire offense is threes. All you guys do is jack up threes. Live by the three, die by the three.

Sorry but we have become that team,"Live and Die by the 3". With a declining Duncan, this is what we have become and have to rely on.

In the playoffs there is no "Live by the 3 Die by the 3". It's only "Die by the 3", in years past our defense has made up for poor 3 point shooting. Clearly we don't have that same defense to bail us out.

playing duncan with single coverage means no open 3's. our offense is fucked because we've surrounded duncan with 3 point shooters who cannot create their own shot. pop has to acknowledge this going into next season and get some slashers in here.

seriously, you cant shoot 11 for14 all series. it's the law of numbers. whatever your season average is, that is what it will come down to at the end of the series.

I think it's just our roll players not able to play to their potential on the road. In the playoffs, you have to have ice in your vains to silence crowds and stop opponent momentums.

RELY on threes all year you are fukked come playoff time, period. What team who shot a ton of threes ever won it all? Post play and slashing is a must, threes are third, the Spurs relied on way too many threes and I said all year long I hated it and it would get them in the end. Next game they may win and hit a ton of them, the next after that another 3-19 or so crap, then we lost because our threes did not go in.

Not to worry. Pop plans to have a 40' wide X 40' tall side of a red barn brought to the AT&T Center and have it placed on our end of the court. He'll tell the players to just see if they can hit the f'ing broad side of the red barn. Seriously, the 3's should start falling in game 5. But, if we don't get anyone other than Tim & Tony to show up we'll be up the proverbial shit creek without a paddle.

As one poster mentioned earlier, they are employing the same defense that we had against the Suns. Stay on the shooters and let TD and TP get the points, they will get tired eventually like what happened last game. Shit, we got a taste of our own medicine.

Precisely why I was so pissed that we let Hairston go. Of course the kid is a ways from a solid contributor but he had the ability to slash and create, based on what I saw.

You live by it you die by it. Shooting the 3 is great, but when thats all you can do and a team plays you to do something else you get exposed. We need wings who can get to the bucket, and a shot blocker and all will be well.

Exactly. Spurs were overly reliant on the three ball the whole season. Dallas has taken that away and the team is crumbling apart.

The thing is that you can shut down a three point line easily.
If you do not have a slasher kind players or dominant force inside. Simple as hell. Another factor is that 3 pointers are low % FG's and also 3 pointers are gut checking psychological area for most players.

So basically we are screwed? Because that was the only thing we did well all season lol. And my point was let them fly cause we don't know how to fuckin win any other way. So yeah live and die by the 3 or we can keep watching our role players stand around and watch TP and TD play 2 on 5.

Trust me i'm no fan of whoring out the 3 ball in the playoffs. I know thats not what won us our past Championships. It's just apparent that this is how this years team ended up. As retarded as it is we don't have the players to do anything else.

And lmao at a Mavs fan trying to tell me that you can't win on jumpers in the playoffs. We know bro. The Mavs have been trying to do that for the past decade.

The spurs are falling back to a trend that got them swept in the playoffs. 2001 WCF we got swept by the Lakers, yeah thats the one that we all try to forget but can't.
The Problem - Duncan, Robinson and three perimeter players who all shot the ball well from 3. Porter / Daniels / Ferry. There was no motion in the offense; when tim or dave got double and those guys werent hitting we were screwed. There were no back-cuts or flair screens or anything else. It was just give it to timmy and wait behind that 3pt line. TODAY - Parker , duncan with 3 perimeter players. Mason jr. / Finley / Bonner and are they hitting? NO, and there's no back-cuts or flair screens to move the mavs defense around. So looking at 2001 WCF,we were pretty fortunate to win game 2. I love the spurs, but they have to force the other players get involved in the offense instead of just watching Tony and Tim.
