I've seen that replay about 20 or so times and it still blows me away. I know that the safety barriers are specifically designed to stop a stock car going 200 mph should it somehow manage to catch some air, but it still amazes me to see that thing stopping the car cold. I don't think there was a dry seat left in the front five rows though.

I fear that Edwards is right -- NASCAR's going to let this crap keep going until someone dies.

Ehhhhh.....then don't race a car taht goes 200 mph. Simple as that.
What does he want them to do? The simple fact that he was able to walk away with zero injury is a testament to what NASCAR has done over the years.

I think Carl was talking about killing a fan, not a racer...

I guess. These crashes have been happening forever though, and that was as much a freak circumstance as anything.
All that really needed to happen was for NASCAR to allow them to go below the yellow line and Keselowski wouldn't have had to hold his spot.
I thought that used to be the rule in the past, I guess they changed that recently.
Fence was put there for a reason, and it did its job.

What's the point of coming into a nascar thread and asking stupid questions?

Watch a whole race and you'll understand.

Fan deaths certainly haven't killed open wheel racing. There have been over a hundred...

Would you prefer to watch 200 hp Fords, Dodge's, and Chevy's go around a 2+ mile track at 85 mph?

Taco with the uneducated as always observation.
Honestly Carl, heres the question, do you want the cars slowed down more?
Take off the restrictor plate and let em get up to 220 and seperate cars that way?
I don't understand what Carl thinks should be done.
While the COT is a roving dungbeetle it is one thing and its safe.
Cars when they go 180 have to dissapate energy, and to do that they have to break apart.
How do you keep a car from getting off the ground at that speed? You mandate wing angles keeping them down. But again, you can't take into effect cars getting up under each other, wind catching an angle just right and lifting it.
I'm sure theres some aero things that can be done, but other than that, outside of making hte catch fence steel and raising the grandstands up 30 feet higher, I don't see what else to do.
Thank you Capt Obvious. Nice of you to make your way in here

Of course that's not a stock car, Taco. How many stock cars have big screen tvs and Lazy Boy recliners in them?
:lol
It's just stupid that they still use the term stock car.
Way back in the day they used to use (modified) stock cars.
