How close was Salmons to being Ginobili?

He got all ball, but if Pierce had kicked his leg out or flailed his arms, would John's aggressive play go down in history as "brainless"?

True, it was not Game 7. It drew the series 2-2, instead of it possibly going 1-3. With that point acknowledged, if Salmons had fouled...would it be considered a "brainless" act? Nothing wrong with contesting the shot, but there is a fine line...a matter of inches with both players... of it being a gutsy, athletic play and it being a stupid play.

Vinnie Del Negro may have been thinking to himself "don't play it so close, you were fortunate this time".

Honestlty, this foul wouldn't have been near the one manu made. He was behind Dirk, a 7 footer who was almost already dunking on the rim . It was a desperate useless hara-kiri play from manu, a lot more bad than this one would be if it was a foul.


but right now, i'd take manu and his couple of careless play to go along his scoring, heart, clutchness, will and everything he would bring to this team.

There's no doubt it was a foul...a bad mistake on Gino's part.

The coach in me just told me, when I watched that play in Chicago on Sunday, that Salmons took too much of a risk blocking that shot.

Manu did foul Dirk... but two or three Mavs were actually hanging onto Duncan seconds later as he tried to dunk it with no call. That's what bothers me more than Ginobili's bad foul.

The big difference between the two situations was Pierce was shooting a three that could have tied the game, while Dirk was shooting a two that wouldn't have tied the game. If Dirk was shooting a three, there should have been a Salmons-esque contest of the shot. But shooting a two? You let them have it. On the play, Bowen backed off and was going to give Dirk the two ........ until it happened.

A Salmons-esque contest also could have been helpful on .4 and it didn't end up burning the Spurs on that Damon Jones shot . . .
