IMHO all 3 of the Spurs big 3 are equally valuable at this point. Manu was the defacto Spurs MVP a couple seasons back, and TP took the reigns the last 2 seasons. Timmay allows them to do what they do, but he needs them as much as they need him.

I'm sure everyone already knew his importance. However, a championship team needs to have depth to make up for health issues, and the backups should be enough to get past the first round. The Spurs just didn't have it. They really never got anything going this year, and weren't better than the other 7 teams below the Lakers. Hopefully that'll be resolved next year.

You were going to need a Kobe Bryant to make up for Manu in 2005 (and even then I'm not sure the Spurs woul have win it) and without 2005 you can forget of 2007 'cause the FO would have probably shipped Parker.

It's a difficult position to be in as an organization. When Manu is healthy, he's easily the best sixth man in the league and a top 5 SG. But if we can't get that production in the postseason, he's absolutely useless to this team.
If Manu is going through injury issues next year, do you look to move him at the trade deadline? Or, assuming you don't move him but don't have post-season success, do you re-sign him or renounce his rights and seek a healthier option? There are difficult questions the Spurs' FO has to answer here, and it has little to do with his past performance.

This is the very first playoffs he misses. I think the sensible thing is to take a look at him next season and see how he's doing. It's obvious you simply can't replace the guy for what he brings to the team every night. I think this series is so clear it's not even funny. He's a one man second unit.
So I'm sure the FO will see how he recovers, and if he's healthy I don't see why they won't offer an extension. He's still young, and I think he still has a lot to play.
As a side note,I won't entertain the whole 'he costs us X championships' (we're not in a position to contend if he's not there to begin with) or all the bitching about 'Playing in the olympics screwed the Spurs' (he got injured playing his heart out for the Spurs, both times). Injuries happen. Tim also missed an entire playoffs and it ended the same way. It was an even worse injury (meniscus), and I didn't see everyone wanting to trade the franchise player back then...

First of all, people that blame our '06 loss solely on Manu are tards. Sure, he had the foul on Dirk that ended up letting them tie the ballgame. It was a play on the ball, ONE play. One play doesn't determine an entire series, it was not just Manu that dug us in the 3-1 hole in the first place, we should not have even been in the position to need a game 7 at home to take the series. I know that it's perfectly natural to try to place blame on somebody so that it's easier to swallow, I mean I even do it by calling Bonner a worthless piece of crap. But blaming Manu for getting injured is going overboard, IMO. It's easy to look BACK and see that he should not have played, but it was his decision, and Manu has earned enough in my book in taking less money, in happily going to the bench, in his play in the Finals '05, that I'm not just gonna throw him under the bus for a series he didn't even play in.
Be angry at Manu if you want, but saying "Fuck Manu" is just stupid after everything he's done for the Spurs and San Antonio.

Look is pretty simple wait till next season if Manu does get injured or his level of play decreases, trade him. Remember he's an expiring contract next year, moving him won't be too hard, even if injured. But to trade him not knowing how good he'll be is just stupid.

People like you like to yap yap yap and forget that he had his best playoffs during a season where he played for Argentina the summer before (2005). We also won in 2007, he played just fine, and he also balled the previous summer. The summer before last, he didn't play any ball, and he still got injured at the end of last season. And what did he have to prove? The guy simply wanted to defend the title they obtained the previous olympics. He had to have surgery either way, which he did and then he recovered perfectly fine. Then he suffered another injury on the other leg. Tough. Injuries happen. They happen to everybody. Sometimes they happen at inopportune times. Just ask Boston, who are in pretty much the same boat.
you are comparing a young tim duncan franchise player 99/00 season where he got a knee injury to ginoboli? the same duncan that came back and won b2b mvps, championships?
What I'm trying to point out is that people are bagging on him like he has aids. The guy is 31 and has not missed a postseason in 7 years. He played half of this season. But now he's injury prone, his body is breaking down, and we should trade a guy that was the Spurs top scorer, 6th man of the year, and 3rd team All-NBA just last season for pennies on the dollar because "he'll never be the same". The least you can do is give the guy a chance. If he gets injured next season again and the FO decides to trade him, then so be it. But some people here are acting like he lost games on purpose, or took a hammer to the fibula and injured himself. Truly a pathetic display.

Well, the Olympics are more important than an NBA season and they are only every four years, so it was an udnerstandable risk. Guys, Argentina could also have been angry with the Spurs for letting him being injured in the Playoffs last year.
Or they could be angry now as he planned to to play this summer for his NT in order to focus on the Spurs.
And yes, he's won a lot with Argentina NT, but he also won three rings with the Spurs, so why should a fourth title be more valuable to him than defending Olympic Gold?
Parker will play for France every summer at least till 2012, he could get injured. Will then everybody bash him for letting the Spurs down, too?

Yeah, and fuck him, he was born in 1977 and he landed in SA en 2002, too late. We lost 25 straight titles because he did not get here before.
Screw him! Fuck him!:bang

For all of you bitches blaming Manu, fuck you! :bangIf anything, this shows how valuable Manu is to the team and how much having him covered up alot of the weaknesses this team have. Without him showed those weaknesses! I didn't hear anyone say that to Timmy or Parker when they played in the Olympics! Nobody got on them for representing their country! Anyway, we have to get rid of alot of the dead weight Bonner, Finley, Vaughn to name a few!
It's not so much that Manu played in the Olympics...it's that he was injured and should have taken the summer off to heal. Instead, he just made his injury worse.

Manu Ginobili will come back strong. So will Tim Duncan and Tony Parker. I would like to see Drew Gooden get a chance to be in the rotation next year. The future is bright. The Mavs will still have no titles. The Suns will still have no titles and we can start over fresh next year. The season is over. Let the league have their Cleveland/LA final which will be a media lovefest for LeBron and Kobe. I may watch if I don't throw up after hearing how this is the greatest final since Bird vs Magic and all the "who is the real MVP?" talk.
It would be so funny if the finals ended up being Orlando vs Denver ! Stern can't let that happen though.

Fairweather fans. The only positive thing about this season is that it'll hopefully drive all the whining bandwaggoners away.

Manu's body is broken down. He's got not one, but two, bad ankles. His game is built on slashing and reckless play. He's almost 32 years old. The chances of him making it all the way to the playoffs are slim.
Duncan is past his prime and has tendenosis. You really think he's gong to go through another whole season without that flaring up again? I don't.
And Drew Gooden is gone. After the way Pop dicked him around? GONE.

lol +1
the brutal cold hard facts have blinded the homers once again.
manu misses a playoff game for the first time + spurs get destroyed without him = Trade Manu.
good logic.
:lol
Whining little (spineless) bitches, that goes for most of you.

Manu would have never let us get embarrassed this way.
He is the balls of the team
Come on man, thats so easy to say. It isnt all about manu's loss man, there are many factors why spurs lost, and did not have a great series. Get over it, get over manu. Even with Manu, would it be any different? Maybe a bit more points and all, but I dont think it would.

:lol at people who think that a healthy Manu would carry a team with Matt Bonner and Michael Finley in its starting lineup to the Finals.

Amazing. Simply amazing with all this Manu hate. The man didn't get up one morning and told himself, "Hmm, How can I screw my U.S. team (Spurs) over"?. Come on folks. Nobody in here will ever feel the commitment one feels for his country. Not one of us. I doubt any of the posters in here are ex-NBA players much less national team players. Give the guy a break. Turn the clock back 2.5 years to 2007 and some folks in here that are bashing Manu right now wanted to bear his children. Hypocrites. What's done is done. Water under the bridge.
I've been following Manu for several years now and the guy is a GEM. Go ahead, trade him and get rid of him. You'll have pie in your face so fast it won't be funny. Get him healthy. Purge some guys out of your roster and add some decent role players and the Spurs are right back in it. I don't buy the "Spurs run is over" theory. It's Horse-Dung.
Lay off Manu guys. He deserves it.

Bashing Manu is really out of hand. You don't think he would have given anything to be out on the floor? Injuries happen. Whatever the circumstances, it's grossly unfair to trash him for being injured, considering how much of his heart, soul and guts he's poured into this franchise over the years.

Odd how the bitterness of this 1st round exit has transformed itself into fan ungratefulness...
If you want to 'blame' something:
Blame Pop's strategies...
Bonner's disappearance...
Mason's sudden lack of confidence...
The Spurs' defensive rotations...

you're a genius to have that idea that it was manu's fault the spurs got beat in the first round. your post is a gem. i don't know, but you must have an IQ above 140.:bang

And yes, it's extremely lame to blame anything on Manu. There's no doubt that he would have been out there if possible. There's no doubt he'll try his hardest the rest of his career to bring a fifth championship to San Antonio. The guy is a warrior and one of the top winners in basketball history.
agreed. that's the reason i'm a fan of manu. but i'm not happy with how the season ended, because i'm a spurs fan. i hope manu returns healthy next year, i know he'll be a beast again.
as for timmy, he has shown he still has gas in the tank. and with the superstar plays of tony, we can have another run for the 5th ring next year.

I know... especially when he intentionally played so hard for the Spurs he ended up breaking a leg... premeditated I say.
GAFB. This thread needs to be bumped next season...
