Yes, it did take him 4 games to play Hill for an extended time and sit Bonner's ass. Yet, we saw in this game that it probably wouldn't have mattered.
You could argue Gooden should have played, but he really stunk up the joint the last few games, so it was really irrelevant.

It was good to see him finally get convinced that a young stud like Hill can play in pressure situations, and I hope he carries this experience over to the next season, when we hopefully can get some more young talent.

Disappointing season overall, but I think with a younger bench and the same, healthy Big 3 we can have another run next season.

Whatever Hill needed to do to make his case to Pop, he's made it. He's a vet now and I suspect he'll become a fixture in the rotation.

I'm sorry, but as much as I love Pop he really didn't help matters at all for the Spurs in this series. I still can't believe it took the Spurs going down 0-2 to the Hornets before he finally put Bowen on Peja.

His ability to keep the Spurs afloat at the beginning of the year despite the injuries was great, but post all star break he just made dumber and dumber decisions. I just hope this summer him and RC will do some major retooling.

Pop was the last one in the room to figure it out. This whole forum was pleading for more Hill since the last month of the regular season.

It takes a unit time to gel together, so the blame sits squarely on Pop not to have a rotation established at any point during the season. Every role player spent the majority of the season looking over his shoulder because he didn't know his role, and it cost the Spurs. The Mavs are clearly more talented, but the Spurs have never beaten playoff opponents with their superior talent, it's because they had a rotation established by late in the season that went on a roll. Pop has clearly been flailing lately. He tries his "don't panic" move by not changing anything and then suddenly makes wholesale changes which shows everyone that he's got no clue what he's doing.

I think it mattered a great deal. Not using Hill for the last part of the season put HIll at a disadvantage as it did the team. Putting mason at the backup pt. also hurt Mason and the team. And for whatever bizaree reasons he stuck with Bonner also hurt the team. So as much as I love POp, he more than anyone made sure this team saw a 1st round exit.

Well, the jury is still out on how competent will they be retooling the roster.
But for all the clamoring about benching Bonner and playing Hill more, he did all that... and still we couldn't win. I'll give him props for at least not letting the ship sink without trying something else.

I'm not giving Pop any fucking props. His coaching this season was mind-boggling. His allegiance to Finley hasn't made sense since 2006. His insistence on making Roger Mason a point-guard despite the obvious fact that he wasn't comfortable there and couldn't produce from that position was nonsensical. Taking Hill out of the rotation and pulling him from playing PG when he was showing himself as nothing but an extremely promising prospect was asinine. Sticking Bruce Bowen on the bench all season only to be used as a desperation measure was stupid. Pop screwed the pooch this year, and I hope he pulls his head out of his ass in time for next season.
