View Full Version : Welcome to the San Antonio Spurs Think Tank

timvp

In the San Antonio Spurs Think Tank forum, we will discuss the NBA draft, free agency, trade targets, international prospects, D-League prospects and more 365 days a year. Pinned to the top of this forum will be the directories for each category. Thread creation and management will be handled by Marcus Bryant and Bruno.

Feel free to add to the conversation in the appropriate threads. You can also suggest new threads within this topic.

Thanks to MB and Bruno for helping out and hopefully this becomes a year-round asset to the SpursTalk community.

No, thank you timvp and Kori.

I look forward to getting this started right. Hopefully Bruno will be able to join us with his encyclopedic knowledge of the NBA's Collective Bargaining Agreement as well as the NBA and European basketball in general. They'll get back to the top, Spurs fans, and we'll be following it in depth every step of the way.

Should be great; I think sectoring this off from the main forum is a great idea.

Here's a good link for free agents:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?page=FreeAgents-09-10

I'll try to look through this for 2009 and suggest threads for players who might be realistic for the Spurs. Others are welcome to do the same, of course.

So do players like Drew get put in here, or not cuz he would be resigned, not just signed?

Just out of curiosity, what would Spurs fans think of the idea of keeping Manu off the court for all of November and December regardless of how healthy he is?

His ankle injuries are clearly not freak injuries, they're clearly caused by to much stress over a certain period of time his ankles have too much mileage to handle. The only reason I post this is because he clearly can't play at the only intensity level he knows how to play at from November - June anymore. My guess is if fans had the choice they'd rather see him playing in April May and June over October November and December if they had to choose.

Some free agents that seem reasonable for discussion:

Zaza Pachulia
Ronald Murray
Mikki Moore
Linton Johnson
Brandon Bass
James Singleton
Antonio McDyess
Ron Artest?
Trevor Ariza
Hakim Warrick (restricted)
Chris Mihm
Quinton Ross
Shelden Williams
Maurice Ager
Sean Marks
Malik Rose
Ime Udoka
Jacque Vaughn
Morris Almond
Channing Frye (restricted)

(Not that I necessarily need threads on all of these (or that this is all-inclusive), but just some that seemed reasonable either based on needs or current salaries.)

If the Spurs ever have Mikki Moore I might switch teams. I would love for the Spurs to throw the MLE at Ariza.

We'll be posting threads for each individual free agent, draft prospect, and member of the Estonian C league over the next week. Until then, feel free to sound off on free agency (http://www.spurstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=124692) and the draft (http://www.spurstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=124683). Time to sleep.

Something else to look at perhaps: Teams that can offer more than the MLE this year.

Here is the list:

Atlanta: payroll going into 09/10: ~41M
Pistons: payroll going into 09/10: ~39M
Grizzlies: payroll going into 09/10: ~36M
Timberwolves:payroll going into 09/10: ~51M
OKC: payroll going into 09/10: ~42M
Portland: payroll going into 09/10: ~49M (before a QO to Frye)
Kings: payroll going into 09/10: ~45M (before QO's to McCants/Diogu)
Raptors: payroll going into 09/10: ~47M (before QO to Joey Graham)

That is the list. Eight teams total that as of now can offer more than the MLE (but this list could get smaller depending on the likelihood of qualifying offers. So when looking at FA's, you can see who has money to compete for the top ones and what needs they might be looking for.

Sorry if this is out there and I missed it, but...

Can there be a thread with nothing but exactly where the Spurs stand for next season?

Contracts, expiring, all the details that are easy to mis-understand when talking about possible roster changes. I think it would make sense as a locked sticky.

I know the info is scattered around here, and I know it's available in various places. But it would be easier if it were here to reference for those of us that don't have the info memorized. :)

If this is where we talk about the future, drafts, trades, etc., what's the point of the rest of the regular Spurs' forum? Since the season is over, those topics are about all we have to talk about.......

Isn't this whole message board a think tank?

Quick question: Say I wanted to make a thread on the Spurs trying to move up to the first round, could I do that?

If it doesn't fit in one of the sticky'ed threads and isn't about a specific prospect, it'd be best to start it in the regular Spurs forum.

Now that we're several weeks into the Think Tank I wanted to let all involved know how great it is. The concept was promising, and it has proven to be a fantastic addition to SpursTalk.

Thanks to Marcus Bryant and Bruno for the time and effort keeping the Tank updated and organized. Thanks to all who keep the info coming in. It's wonderful to have the draft/free agent/trade stuff in one place. I find myself using it even more than I thought I would. The index threads are great, it makes finding stuff easy.
