The Toronto Raptors introduced their new model perimeter player, DeMar DeRozan, yesterday, even as it appeared the old model, Anthony Parker, is unlikely to return to the club.

The veteran shooting guard has been the picture of consistency with the Raptors, but at age 34 and looking for one last lucrative contract, the market for his services both in the NBA and overseas may prove too rich for Toronto.

According to league sources at least five NBA teams inquired about Parker in the lead-up to Thursday night's draft, where Toronto took DeRozan ninth overall out of the University of Southern California.

The five teams to ask about Parker, a free agent on July 1st, include San Antonio, Boston, Phoenix, Cleveland and Oklahoma City. While their intensity of interest might vary, it's clear Parker will be able to find work and perhaps a multiyear deal in the NBA should he choose after his three-year, $12-million (U.S.) contract expires on Tuesday.

If Spurs trade Mason and Finley isn't back, signing Parker would be a very solid move.
He is quite old but he is a good defender and shooter. He would be a great fit for Spurs.

Parker is pretty decent. His footspeed was slow last year (not Udoka slow but pretty close) but he'd be a solid good role player off the bench.

I liked him in the past, and maybe now that the Spurs have brought in lots of youth and jettisoned many of the older players, he wouldn't be a bad option if he'd be willing to sign a cheap contract. I wouldn't call him Plan A, but he's worth keeping an eye on.

No, as long as it's not at the expense of Hairston, (someone of similar size and greater upside defensively) the Spurs could definitely do worse.

If the Raptors can't trade Marion, the simplest path to clearing space for Turkoglu would be to renounce its rights to Marion, Carlos Delfino, and Anthony Parker.

Parker was never incredibly quick or athletic, but he plays the game very smart. I didn't see him much last year, so I don't know if he has really lost a step, or if he is just at his limits. But unless he has really slowed significantly, he would be a good addition if the money was right. But I understand that there are a couple of Euro teams likely to pay more than we would.

Parker is one of those solid players that would keep our second unit from going to hell for extended minutes. We need a couple of players like that, to make sure that the starters don't have to get off the bench early. Like it or not, Tim's minutes are going to be rationed - especially in the regular season. We need some solid, consistent players to make sure games don't slip away from us while our subs are on the floor.

I've been talking about Anthony Parker as one of those guys for the last 2-3 seasons, and getting flamed regularly for it. A lot of people are too quick to discount any player coming from the EuroLeague.
