If they start closing down schools for months at a time its going to destroy retail sales, people will be staying home. I'll be fucked over this.

People are wayyyy overreacting.

Use common sense. Wash your hands. Don't hack on people.

I semi-want to catch the ol' H1N1. Just fill up a syringe and stick that spike into my vein baby. Get her over with while the Tamiflu's still flowing.

The government estimates that a pandemic like the 1918 Spanish flu would sicken 90 million Americans, or about 30 percent of the population. Of those, nearly 10 million would have to be admitted to a hospital, and nearly 1.5 million would need intensive care. About 750,000 would need the help of mechanical ventilators to keep breathing.

There are only 950,000 hospital beds TOTAL in the US, and a large percentage of those are already filled with actual patients.

This whole thing may quite possibly turn out to be nothing.

BUT

If it gets bad, it can get VERY bad very fast.

It would not take much to completely overwhelm the medical facilities in the US. We simply have too little excess capacity and no real framework to handle such a pandemic.

Lots of doctors are going to be buying new cars and houses off this scare.
