I think he'll be traded or the Spurs will terminate his contract but I hope he's back on a minimum deal

They better Not get rid of Bruce. He needs to not only stay in SA, but he needs to start.

I'd love for him to remain with the team and play 10 MPG as a defensive specialist..he's still clearly a good defender, as he showed by shutting down Terry in the series..he could also be a mentor..

the best case would be to use his salary for a trade, and allow him to re-sign for the minimum after he's cut..

No harm in bring him back

This season showed that we can easily get another season out of Bowen if we limit him a la Robert Horry and unleash him in the playoffs. The way he looked in the playoffs would make me venture to say that even this year he could still pull out a 2007 performance on Lebron.

He should retire a Spur and I don't want him to retire yet.

RC would have to be a fucking retard to cut Bruce loose. So anyway, I hope Bowen does well with his new team next season.

Until we find his replacement (and given the problems we've had this year with consistent defensive effort) Bruce should be back. He'd be a great defensive mentor to George as well.

I think Hairston or Gist should get that, but I wwant Bowen playing more than Fin. I'd prefer they not both be on the team, but it so, I want Fin, Bonner, and KT as the usual IR players.

I'm fine with bringing him back on his current contract. However, much like Thomas, Bonner, and Oberto, if his contract is needed for a key trade then the Spurs likely won't hesitate to ship him out.

Bruce has brought so much to this team over the years. He deserves to finish his career here.

PFFT.

Is this the same source who told you Ginobili was gauranteed done for the year back in February?

Well, it's possible that the consensus among medias isn't the same than the one in the FO.
Spurs aren't exactly known to be a franchise that shares its views with the media.

Ideally, he will be traded with Oberto, they will be cut, and Bruce will be back soon after. A win-win.

Yeah that would be perfect.

Oberto IMO will retire most likely.

I am all in favor of bringing back Bowen for one more year if Pop starts him, but if he is going to do the same thing he did this year by bringing him off the bench, then we are going to be in trouble. Bruce needs to start to be effective. Trying to bring him in when a player is already hot and then asking him to shut them down is too much to ask for at his age already.:nope You could get away with doing that a couple of years ago, but he has lost a step and you have to allow him to get into a rhythm defensively before you can count on him spotting up for the corner 3 on the break.

I wonder how this season would have turned out had Pop not retired Bruce.

Might've gotten out of round one, but not much more. Not without Manu and half of Timmy.

I'd love to see him stick around. I know they say he's lost a step but I think he's still one of the best defenders in the league.

i don't know if bowen will still have it next year. he will be another year older and he's already lost one or two steps since 2007. i like him as an insurance policy at the vet minimum but not as a primary option. spurs should figure out a way to get rid of his current salary. spurs need to aggressively pursue a replacement at the wing and look towards the era after bowen.

I really would like to know what exactly all this "lost a step" business is based upon. The only thing Bruce lost this year was PT, and perhaps patience.

bruce scored 50 points this game :lol. OK, Pro B (2nd french league) wasn't a very high level, but that's still 50 pts.

Well if anything, Bruce should be one of the freshest vets on the team next year with the time he's had to rest this season....he essentially had a year off.

If Bruce wants money he won't be here next year.

he's partially owed $4 mil and will likely be bought out for about half that, then signed to a vet minimum deal of 1.2mil.

That's still about 70% of his pay, and I doubt he signs for more than the vet minimum somewhere else.

Bruce doesn't get the recognition he deserves. Bruce is the epitome of Spurs Basketball. He should be brought back until he decides it's time to retire. Then the FO should still hold onto him as an assistant coach. or a scout.

Stringer_Bell

Bruce should definitely be around next season. He can continue mentoring Hill and any other youngsters that end up on the roster. The man can still play at great level. There's no one I'd rather send into a game to shut down a hot shooter than Bruce!

i hope that's the way it will be. Outside needing him to be part of a trade, i just don't see a single reason to get rid of Bowen.

Bowen shouldn't be very attractive for others team and is very useful for us. So, i see him staying with us, even if Pop reluctance to play him could be a bad sign for him.

If the Spurs make a trade (which they all but have to do if they hope to improve), Bruce will be a part of it. Hopefully, they buy him out and he comes back to SA.
