Vladimir Dasic Bio (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=txvladimirdasicbio&prov=st&type=lgns)
By Matt Beardmore

NAME: Vladimir Dasic

SCHOOL: KK Buducnost Podgorica

POSITION: Forward

HEIGHT: 6-foot-9

WEIGHT: 225 pounds

SCOUTING REPORT: At 6-foot-9, Dasic is a mismatch waiting to happen, as he is more comfortable getting out in transition and finishing than with his back to the basket. Although Dasic is an athletic forward who can create his own shot off the dribble, his shot selection has been questioned (he can fall in love with the 3-point line). Dasic needs to add some strength and toughness to be a factor at the next level, but he already has the defensive mentality and knack for getting into passing lanes that could make him a valuable asset for an NBA team. Dasic has struggled with turnovers and finishing with both hands, but since he just turned 21, he still has time to improve his game.

Mountainballer loves this guy, and I trust his opinion on Euro prospects.

This doesn't seem like a guy who could contribute in the next 2 years.

Draft Prospect: Vladimir Dasic

We’ve already looked at Omri Casspi, Danny Green, and Sergio Llull as prospects the Spurs could target with pick 37. We’ll continue to look at players who should be available at that stage of draft, even though there is talk of the Spurs trading into the first round. This post will deal with a player few of our readers have heard of, and even fewer have actually watched play. But his profile is intriguing, to say the least.

Vladimir Dasic’s reported skill set makes my head spin. A basic report would tell us that Dasic is a 6′10 combo forward with legit 3 skills. DX has him at 225 lbs, but I’ve been told he is closer to 240. He has three point potential, looks comfortable on the perimeter, and can create his own shot. Good, good and good.

But the most interesting aspect of Dasic–at least to me–is his defensive billing. DraftExpress puts it this way:

The best part about Dasic’s game surprisingly might be his defense. He seems to have no problem guarding wing players from what we’ve seen this year, getting low in a fundamental stance, moving his feet extremely well and doing a great job containing penetration and contesting shots with his length. He’s doing a solid job on both SFs and PFs this season, playing with good intensity, and sees production in the stat-sheet as well-as he currently leads the Adriatic League in steals per game.

In an email, Christophe Ney demurs a bit:

In general, I don’t see Dasic as a defense-first guy, far from becoming a stopper like Bowen is. Dasic has great offensive talent which makes him a decent prospect. The combination of size and skills he has is very rare. He can also take over a role as a leader which he did this summer with the Montenegro U20 National team.

Ney continues his assessment, but this time through a profile at European Prospects:

On the other hand, Dasic can erupt with some very nice scoring, either from long distance or in the paint. He is present on the offense rebound and is not afraid to go for post moves against bigger guys. As he runs the floor extremely well, he is difficult match-up for slower inside players as well as for shorter wing players.

Ney has watched Dasic closely, and so has a friend named mountainballer. The latter lives in Austria and watches his share of Adriatic League action via Slovenian and Croatian TV. In his estimation, Dasic is a great talent.

Dasic could develop into Vlad Radmanovic with defense. Dasic should do pretty well defending the Lamar Odom or David West type PFs. His ability and willingness to play intensive and physical defense could make him a great fit with the Spurs. And, in my opinion, the worst case scenario for Dasic should be Eduardo Najera. Considering that Pop has always liked Najera, even if Dasic never realizes his full potential, he wouldn’t be a lost pick for the Spurs.

When I read these things, I’m at a loss as to why Dasic mocks second round to undrafted. If he slips into the 50s, I’ll be cheering hard for the Spurs to draft him. He turned 21 just this month. The Spurs could do a lot worse than drafting a guy of his skill set on a let’s-see-if-he-develops gamble. He’s currently on the workout circuit, although the only team he is confirmed to have met with is the Thunder.
Yeah, definitely intriguing.:tu

Doubtful. He is a pretty horrible 3pt shooter.

I will tell you more about him next year. 99% accurate info is that he's gonna sign a contract with my club Partizan :D Watched him few times, and i liked what i saw, but frankly i expected quicker development from him. Now he is in the club that produces very good C and PF (Divac, Krstic for example), so i think you'll see him in the NBA maybe in 2 years.
Btw, he's not horrible 3pt shooter, but could improve. And he's not like Kleiza, more like Rashard Lewis type player.

We have three shots in the 2nd round. He's worth one of them if he's there. He plays a position that we've struggled with for years.

I kinda closed the door a bit early on this guy after reading his draft profile. The fact that he is inconsistent as a shooter still troubles me, but if he is there with one of our 50's picks he might not be a bad player to take a chance on. I respect mountainballer's opinion, and picks this low are a crap shoot anyway. Why not?

Why not indeed? I like the fact that he may be a natural defensive player. Anybody that isn't projected as a sure thing starter in this league can make a spot for himself if he's willing and able to play defense and rebound. I'm thinking along the lines of Birdman.

Beggers can't be choosers. If he's there in the 50's, it's a no-brainer.

From DX at Treviso:

-After looking virtually asleep for much of the first day, Montenegrin Vladimir Dasic clearly came to life in day two, stringing together a pair of strong performances in the morning game and then in the evening’s all-star event. Dasic is extremely athletic for this setting, and he’s been very difficult for opponents to stop in transition and attacking the basket off a quick dribble or two from the high post. His body looks excellent as a 6-9 and very fluid small forward, and he was able to make shots both spotting up from 18-20 feet and pulling up off the dribble from mid-range, even if he wasn’t credited with any 3-pointers on the day.

He also had a number of very impressive possessions defensively, smothering his opponent on the perimeter with his terrific length and lateral quickness. He needs to work on maintaining his focus and not trying to do too much with the ball, as at times he tends to get a bit crazy going behind the back with his dribble and settling for wild shots. His ball-handling skills need some work, but it’s pretty clear that he is one of the more naturally talented players in attendance, even if he doesn’t always play up to his full potential.

Dasic may still pull out of the draft at the deadline we’re told, depending on what he’s hearing from NBA teams. While he’s probably not in the first round at this point, he’s the type of player that could get there next year with a good season in a strong European league. Since his buyout issues have apparently been resolved, he probably isn’t in as much of a rush to get to the NBA as he once was.

If he's in no hurry to get to the NBA he sounds like a Spurs pick then.

Vladimir Dasic , F, Serbia
Dasic has great size and excellent athleticism. When he shows up, like he did on Sunday, he's really impressive. He can put the ball on the floor, shoot the ball from distance and crash the boards. When he completely disappears, like he did on Saturday, he leaves you scratching your head.

Most teams know he's a project. He has the raw physical tools, but he is still learning the game and isn't ready to play in the NBA right now. However, if Dasic stays in the draft, he could go in the second round and be a value pick a few years from now if he develops. From a physical standpoint, he's one of the few players in the camp with the athleticism and strength to compete night in and night out in the NBA.

Top 10 Eurocamp prospects:

9. Vladimir Dasic 6'10'' SF Montenegro 1988
He has all the physical tools to become a top level prospect, but his demeanor and passive approach make him a fringe 2nd round talent. For a wing player, he has the size, strength, wingspan and athleticism, but when attacking the hoop he looks like all of these things are missing from his package. The only time his athleticism is showcased is on a clear path to the basket, otherwise his layup attempts are very soft and they find the bottom of the hoop with mixed results. He has moments where he shows glimpses of his slashing game, as well as the ability to mix up secondary moves. His jump shot is up and down, but his form is good and his release is smooth and he proved that his range can extend to the NBA 3. Right now, Dasic is relying upon intrigue and potential, but at some point things have to translate into consistency on the court, and until they do, he will continue to be a borderline player.

he was a big disappointment this season and couldn't get any PT with Real Madrid. I can only guess that the language barrier has also been a factor. last year during the workouts there were some reports that Dasic is neither very smart, nor very coachable. (I guess one scout said he was "not all there").
however, Real shipped him two weeks ago to Gran Canaria, an average team in the ACB. (he played two games for them, also not impressive). I don't think he can turn the season around there, as he fights for minutes with Will McDonald and James Augustine. I'm not sure if he still is a 2nd round lock, for sure he is no longer a 1st round candidate. personally I cooled down on him from last year. I totally underestimated the mental factor.

I've always preferred Casspi to Dasic precisely because of the smarts and understanding of the game. 2 years ago this stance wasn't popular.

That said, Dasic is still a guy with very good athleticism and excellent defensive potential with an interesting offensive skill-set. If he gains some purpose on his game and, who knows, develops a good outside shot, he can be as good as guys like Casspi and Jerebko.

GC is a good place for Dasic to gain minutes, but they'll play him more at the 4, he'll be replacing Daniel Kickert. In Real they were working on him to play the 3 which would probably be better for his NBA future.

Definitely worth a mid second rounder for a team looking for someone they can stash for a few years.

Dasic has been waived from Gran Canaria for disciplinary reasons. His poor performances on the court also didn't help his cause. I guess it's now safe to say that he won't be drafted.

He's an imbecile. Let's hope Dusko has a place for him next season, he may be the only guy able to save the kid's career.
