Unfortunately, Wally World has "Spurs" written across his forehead. Veteran, "good guy" shooter with Euro basketball roots and something to prove? Add in the fact that he played for Presti and Ferry in his last two stops ... and it's just a matter of time before the Spurs make that phone call.

He would rather stay in Cleveland.

Why ya'll hatin on Wally? He's a great player, has a ton of playoff experience, and also has the cajones to take and make big shots. I'd sign his ass in a heartbeat if the price was right.

Yep

Yep again. I am not enthusiastic, personally, as he is definetly not an athletic addition. However, I'd rather have him than Finley... look at his by position stats on 82 games.com

http://www.82games.com/0809/08CLE5.HTM#bypos

as a SG, he's decent. As an SF, he's so-so.

Chris has hit on the key point "if the price is right". What is the right price, and how much is Wally going to get this summer? I don't think anyone will offer as much as the MLE. He might get stuck with a vet min deal (particularly a 1 year deal, looking to cash back in, come 2010)... At that price point, we would pretty much have to be interested. Perhaps some sort of weird S&T deal could be worked. For example:

SAS gets Wally S&T at 2.5 Million, 1 Year
POR get Finley, 1 year remaining at 2.5 Million (they are apparently looking for a reliable veteran presence to guide the kids...)
CLE get Pick #53 in 2009 from SAS, TE from POR.

I'd do that in a heartbeat. I think CLE does it as a favour to Wally, as I think they are plannin on bidding him adios this summer. POR might do it - it doesn't cost them anything, and gets them the veteran "show the right way" presence that might be valuable in the locker room, all without significant impact on their financials...

Great shooter, hustles, solid veteran but he makes Finley look like Bowen defensively.

This is so true man. This is exactly the kind of guy the Spurs would go after. Whether that is good or bad is for you to decide. I think it would be an OK upgrade. How is wally-world at defending? I haven't paid attention closely to the guy since his T-Wolves day.

He has moved so much lately, he probably would like to stay where he is. And surely, he has earned more than enough money. He gets to come off the bench and score some points- nice spot for him. Bet he stays in Cleveland, especially with their success.

Really don't like Wally.

At the same time, he'd be the type of guy I would probably like if he came to the Spurs...

Damn, maybe 7 years ago. If you watch him he's slow as hell now, would be a liability on defense. But, he can make open shots, and even still has a nice little back in his man turnaround j that usually goes down for him. I mean if he comes off the bench like in cleveland and isn't too costly i wouldn't mind him...he just can't be a starter or someone we really on for long stretches cuz his D.

He just threw up an airball in an elimination game, at least Finley does not do that.

Szczerbiak sucking in the playoffs has dropped his value and his chances to be back with Cleveland.

With Spurs current roster, signing him makes no sense. But if Finley retire and Mason is traded, Wally for the min is a quite good option.

Wasn't he injured? Not excusing his suckiness in the playoffs but I thought he was playing on a bum knee.

It doesn't matter I'd rather have Finley back than Wally.

They have to get younger and looks like he will be gone.

So do we. Lose his number, RC. We already have Bonner as our designated White Boy playoff choker.

You're right, but noooooooooooo-ooooooooooooooooo! :lol

Wally looked about 57 this season, and couldn't defend a blind schoolgirl even when he had knees.

Let's walk very quickly in the other direction.

Nope. He's like Bonner but worse.
