21 students arrested in U. of I. drug crackdown
Tribune staff report
May 2, 2009
Twenty-one University of Illinois students, including some from the Chicago suburbs, were arrested this week in connection with a yearlong investigation into drug dealing on campus.
Students were arrested Wednesday and Thursday in two dorms, at three fraternities, a sorority and at several off-campus houses and apartments in Urbana and Champaign. Four non-students also were arrested by U. of I. police on drug-related charges. Those arrested were not all working together, said university police Lt. Roy Acree.
"I would hope it would send a message to students that if you are selling drugs, there is a good chance you're going to get caught," Acree said. He said officers had investigated campus drug dealing, through undercover purchases and other methods, since the fall semester.
Police seized 180 grams of marijuana, traces of cocaine, anti-anxiety pills, $3,100, two vehicles, three flat-screen televisions and two laptop computers, Acree said.
Most of the arrests were on suspicion of manufacturing and delivering marijuana, Acree said. The students could face disciplinary action, including possible expulsion from the university, said U. of I. spokeswoman Robin Kaler.

Along with the military industrial complex, and the prison industrial complex, there is the war-on-drugs industrial complex.
It's all about the $$ and job security through make-work, not about marijuana.
Marijuana is a gateway drug ... to $Bs annually in WOD, filling up prison industrial complex.

They have to do shit like this to build up a track record if they want to make it to their end game level where they can take on the actual big bad people.
It's pointless and completely unfair, however it is the system. A system that as you know, was comprised by people completely unrelated to Law Enforcement.
Cops get shitty pay and risk each day getting shot at so they can be pawns in a system bigger than themselves. Life's a bitch.

The big bad people are the assholes in Washington lobbying to keep these substances illegal, costs to our liberties, pocketbooks, and security be damned. I'm with balli... if I ever get called to serve on a jury for a case involving drugs, the best the state will get is a hung jury, because I will refuse to convict unless a real crime like assault, robbery, murder, etc. was committed with it.

What's the difference? As long as you didn't commit a crime under the influence of these drugs, who freakin' cares? Let people make their own decisions, they are going to do it anyway.
Oh, Gee!!

I never understood the idea of separate university police in most cities and towns.

No.
Do you have any friends or family that have died from driving?
Do you have any friends or family that have died from smoking cigarettes?
I think cars and tobacco should be illegal, they are a detriment to American communities.

nope...but following this way of thinking we should ban alcohol as well. I have had family killed in car accidents...ban 'em!
edit: beat me to it

And then once cars, tobacco and alcohol are banned, some police commander should use a year's worth of investigative work to track down and confiscate an 84 Chevy pickup, a cigarette and a single 40 of malt liquor. And then afterwards, said commander should brag about the efficacy of doing so. After all, it would really "send a message".

University Police. They can't do jack shit to keep the campus safe from rape and murder but they sure as hell can write a parking ticket and bust their paying customers out of the college.
Scumbags. Although I do agree if you are selling shit and get caught thats your own damn fault.
